A Sarcopenia é caracterizada pela perda progressiva e generalizada de força e massa muscular, sendo que a prevalência em indivíduos com tumores malignos varia conforme o método de definição empregado, e pode ter como consequências, diminuição da funcionalidade, pior qualidade de vida, maior tempo de hospitalização e menor sobrevida. O objetivo desse estudo foi apresentar uma revisão de literatura sobre prevalência de sarcopenia e a associação com o estado nutricional de pacientes oncológicos. A metodologia utilizada constituiu uma revisão bibliográfica com revisão de artigos publicados entre os anos 2013 a 2019. Foram consultadas as bases de dados PubMed, SciELO e Google Acadêmico, sendo utilizado como palavras-chave: sarcopenia, câncer e estado nutricional. Observou-se maior prevalência de sarcopenia em idosos, sendo também evidenciada em pacientes adultos, e em pacientes eutróficos e com sobrepeso, sugerindo que essa síndrome afeta indivíduos em qualquer categoria de Índice de Massa Corporal e faixa etária. Estudos relacionados à sarcopenia e ao câncer são importantes e devem ser realizados levando em conta a individualidade de cada paciente, a fim de conhecer e buscar a melhor estratégia para minimizar o impacto negativo do tratamento oncológico, e evitar a piora no estado nutricional e qualidade de vida do paciente.
