The extensive occupation of canopy trees by ants can be attributed to many factors, such as the presence of structures that provide food and shelter. Structures induced by other insects in host plants, like senescent galls, can provide shelter and a nesting place for many species of ants. The main objectives of this work were: (1) to describe the ant communities found in canopies of candeia trees (Eremanthus erythropappus), including the species which use galls as nesting sites; (2) verify the role of galls in determining the structure and composition of the ant communities and (3) to evaluate whether the size and shape of galls are important to the choice of nesting sites by ants. Specifically, the following questions were investigated: 1 – Are larger galls more frequently occupied by ants than smaller galls? 2 – Does gall shape (globular and fusiform) influence occupation? 3 – Which species of ants are present in the canopies of candeias and which are occupying galls? Senescent galls were collected in locations in the southern portion of the Espinhaço Mountain Range, state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. In total, 3,195 galls were collected and 19 ant species were recorded. Only 176 galls (5.5%) had been occupied by ants, and these were represented by 11 species. The most frequent species found occupying galls were Myrmelachista nodigera, with 48 colonies; Nesomyrmex spininodis, with 37 colonies; and Crematogaster complex crinosa sp. 1, with 29 colonies. The ants occupied galls with greater volume and diameter. Even considering the low occupation frequency, senescent galls in E. erythropappus are used by ants, either as outstations or satellite nests of polydomic colonies, and may be important in determining ant species composition in canopy trees.
Naringin is a flavonoid glycoside found in citrus fruits and grapes with a wide range of therapeutic actions. We aimed to study the inotropic effect of naringin on rat-isolated atria, dissecting intracellular mechanisms involved in this response. Concentration-response curves of naringin (0.003-6 mM) were obtained before and after pre-incubation with selective antagonists. Our results showed that naringin presented a biphasic inotropic response, with a positive inotropic effect at low and middle concentrations (0.003-2.0 mM), and a negative inotropic effect at high concentrations (above 3 mM). Pre-incubation with propranolol or atenolol (β-adrenergic receptors antagonists, β-AR), H89 (protein kinase-A inhibitor, PKA), nifedipine (L-type Ca2+ channel blocker), or ryanodine (ryanodine receptor inhibitor) fully abolished the positive inotropic effect induced by naringin. Pre-treatment of animals with reserpine, catecholamine-depleting drug, also prevented the increase of atrial contractility evoked by naringin. Altogether, we show that naringin causes a positive inotropic effect in isolated atria through β-AR/PKA-dependent pathway.
The work here focuses on health and society and has a predominant area of Nursing in Women’s Health Care. This is a research with a related theme, the sexuality of women during breastfeeding. The chosen study objects are factors related to the woman’s sexuality that interfere with breastfeeding. Considering that most that most women tend to wean the baby early, this characterizes a low adherence to exclusive breastfeeding and triggers several complications for the NB(newborn) because we know that breast milk has fundamental immune factors for growth and development, being it rich in water, vitamins, proteins, fats and other essential nutrients that prevent disease. Related to the act of breastfeeding, considering that they end up reflecting on social and family life, in addition to the fantasies that are perpetuated in our culture around motherhood and female sexuality, which sometimes sometimes ends up affecting the couple’s relationship, and or the mother-child bond, since the woman confuses the feeling of sexual pleasure she has with her partner with the feeling of breastfeeding the baby.
The time of pregnancy is generally expected that women with high expectations, but not always the same feel prepared for this period, generating some doubts and fear. When faced in a positive way, it is special, but for that to happen, it is necessary that this woman, to want to get pregnant, go through a pre-conception consultation, accompanied by a skilled health Identify adopted guidance strategies the nurse to pregnant women with HIV to reduce the risk of vertical transmission; analyze the influences of guidance provided to that pregnant women during prenatal, postpartum. We opted for the realization of an integrative review, was held search in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in August 2015, using the keywords: Vertical transmission of infectious disease, HIV and Nursing associated with the Boolean AND operator. Results: Analyzing the articles appeared two themes: Nursing guidelines for reducing the risk of vertical transmission: the importance of nurses to reduce vertical transmission of HIV in Brazil is important, no doubt this professional develops activities relevant to public health from the instances of the grievances of the reduction policy to instances of comprehensive care to pregnant women, new mothers and mothers. Nursing orientation consequences of postpartum: health professionals, including nurses is critical to support families living with or affected by HIV. Conclusion: This research aims at the importance of professional training for nurses working in the area, as a skilled and sensitive nurse makes the advice of active listening process, generating trust between you and the woman, during consultations, one must realize a return that offered guidelines are being absorbed and practiced the same.
