Squash techniques were used to spread, the 39 pachytene bivalents from spermatogenic Canis familiaris cells collected by testicular biopsy from normal, healthy male collie dogs. Eight cells in which all bivalents could be identified were photographed, enlarged to 4500 × and cutouts prepared for each chromosome in each of the cells. Characterization and identification were based on relative length, mean percentage length, and number of chromomeres in each bivalent.
