RESUMENEl cultivo del chile (Capsicum spp.) es importante en la historia, tradición y cultura de México y es, además, un producto agrícola con alta demanda mundial. A pesar de esto, el chile se ha estudiado poco en el estado de Tabasco. En este trabajo se describe la diversidad morfológica in situ, con base en dieciocho características morfológicas de planta, fl or y fruto de cuarenta poblaciones de Capsicum entre las que se encuentran nativas de Tabasco e introducidas. De acuerdo con la denominación local de los agricultores, las muestras se clasifi caron en doce tipos raciales de los cuales, nueve pertenecen a Capsicum annuum L.
