Objective to identify the challenges pediatric nursing workers face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method qualitative study, using a semi-structured electronic form applied to nursing workers from pediatric services in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Data were submitted to lexicographic analysis using the Interface de R pour Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires, Word Cloud technique, and Similitude Analysis. Results different challenges concerning the COVID-19 pandemic were reported, including the need to promote comprehensive and quality care while being concerned with protecting oneself and others, with an emphasis on fear. A lack of protective equipment, training, diagnostic tests, and knowledge/information concerning the disease was also reported, in addition to a reduced number of nursing workers and a lack of appreciation for the profession. Conclusion managerial guidelines need to be adopted for properly allocating human and material resources in the health field, including the pediatric services, in addition to providing training on standard precautions. Actions to encourage, value, motivate, and support the nursing staff are needed during and after the pandemic to protect the physical and mental health of these professionals.
Objective: To understand the conditions that influence the adherence and application of best practices by nurses in the context of the Nursing care management in the Kangaroo Mother Care in the Neonatal ICU. Method: Study of qualitative approach, whose theoretical and methodological frameworks were Symbolic Interactionism and Grounded Theory, respectively. We used the in-depth interview with 8 nurses from the Neonatal ICU of a public maternity hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Results: The conditions involved in adhering to the best practices of humanization in the Neonatal ICU are related mainly to human resources, interaction among professionals, work processes and leadership strategies; and care management. Conclusion: Professional and institutional challenges have been identified that need to be addressed to improve adherence and implementation of the Kangaroo Mother Care best practices.
Gravidez. Família. Enfermagem. In this way, the affectivity is connected to adaptive responses of the parents and the family.
AbSTRAcTThis descriptive-reflexive study was performed with the objective to present the characteristics of researchers who use the Grounded Theory method, and outline the development of aptitudes for the researcher to become a Grounded Theoretician. The theoretical discussion was based on the frameworks of this methodology and supported by the literature. The article presents the main demands of qualitative studies using Grounded Theory, and important behaviors, attitudes and characteristics developed by the researchers. It is concluded that learning about Grounded Theory involves more than operationalizing a group of procedures and techniques. It also involves facing challenges to change one's attitude as a researcher and develop new ways of thinking and researching, gathering knowledge based on data to form a theory. dEScRiPToRSNursing Nursing research Nursing methodology research Qualitative research RESUmEnEstudio de naturaleza descriptivo-reflexiva que objetiva presentar las características del investigador que utiliza el método Teoría Fundamentada en los Datos y delinear reflexiones sobre el desarrollo de las aptitudes del investigador para transformarse en un Teórico Fundamentado. Subjective, educational, sociocultural and institutional conditions influence the nurse interactions, causing order/disorder on care management.
OBJECTIVE: construct an explanatory theoretical model about nurses' adherence to the Kangaroo Care Method at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, based on the meanings and interactions for care management. METHOD: qualitative research, based on the reference framework of the Grounded Theory. Eight nurses were interviewed at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The comparative analysis of the data comprised the phases of open, axial and selective coding. A theoretical conditional-causal model was constructed. RESULTS: four main categories emerged that composed the analytic paradigm: Giving one's best to the Kangaroo Method; Working with the complexity of the Kangaroo Method; Finding (de)motivation to apply the Kangaroo Method; and Facing the challenges for the adherence to and application of the Kangaroo Method. CONCLUSIONS: the central phenomenon revealed that each nurse and team professional has a role of multiplying values and practices that may or may not be constructive, potentially influencing the (dis)continuity of the Kangaroo Method at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The findings can be used to outline management strategies that go beyond the courses and training and guarantee the strengthening of the care model.
Objective: to identify scientific evidence on best practices in newborn care, from the delivery room to the home, in COVID-19 times. Method: an integrative review conducted in April 2020 at National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Scopus, through combinations between the controlled terms “newborn”, “coronavirus infections”, and “COVID-19”. Results: nineteen studies made up the final sample, from which five analytical categories emerged on best practices in newborn care: Pregnant women and puerperal women suspected of having COVID-19; Pregnant and puerperal women with confirmation for COVID-19; Newborns suspected of having COVID-19; Newborns with confirmation for COVID-19; and Horizontal transmission prevention of COVID-19 to newborns. Conclusion: several recommendations were divergent, due to the contemporary pandemic of COVID-19. Therefore, the role of nurses is essential for adherence to best practices, which are proven and recommended nationally and internationally, taking into account the local reality and the constant updating of the theme. Therefore, further research is needed, especially with a strong level of evidence, for formulation of assistance guidelines for this population group that contribute to reducing neonatal morbidity and mortality and healthy and harmonious child development during and post-pandemic.
