Diabetes mellitus is an important global health concern of the present era and needs immediate attention. It is a common and very prevalent disease affecting about 25 % of world population. The term diabetes mellitus describes a metabolic disorder of multiple aetiology characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia with disturbances of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both Ayurveda is a holistic health care system of medicine which is more than 5000 years old & it describes diabetes under the heading Prameha. Among all Samtarpana (enriching) janya vyadhi Prameha has been explained first. Inclusion of Prameha (Diabetes mellitus) among the eight major disorders shows the significance of the disease was given by the seer. Apatarpana (depleting) is the first line of treatment affected in santarpanajanya vyadhi. Shodhana (purification) is cleansing of body according to Ayurveda. Shodhana karma (purification procedure) is planned for ablution of the body, by which the piled up gruesome humors culpable for disease drive-out to produce an ideal status for legitimate functioning of body. These purification methods are essential components of the curative management of those diseases that are not controlled by palliative management.
Sthoulya(Obesity) is a burning problem in the world scenario and has acquired the status of an epidemic. The dietary habits, sedentary life styles and stress etc., which are the gift of modern world, are primary predisposing factors for Sthoulya. Obesity is basically a behavioral disorder. Persons life become difficult in Sthoulya and suffers from various serious disorders like hampered physical activity, hampered sexual life, extreme lassitude, proneness to dangerous diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, above all diseases and disorder decreases the span of life. The major risk related with Sthoulya is that, it favors complicated pathologies like diabetes mellitus, cardiac disease, atherosclerosis, gall stones, hypertension, stroke, so righty said "longer is the belt, shorter is the life". In allied science, the disease is correlated as metabolic disorder and obesity due to resemblance of sign and symptoms. Ayurveda has a holistic treatment approach for obesity. Kapha and Pitta vitiation are the major contributing pathological factors in Sthoulya manifestation. According to Ayurveda Shodhananga Snehapana followed with Virechana and internal medication is considered as the best line of management for metabolic disorder. Here I am presenting a single case of sthoulya. The treatment planned was Deepana-pachana (Rukshana) with Panchakola phanta, Snehapana (Shodhananga Snehapana) with Murchita taila followed by Virechana. After the whole course of therapy, it was found significant relief in sign and symptoms of Sthoulya. The therapy marked relief. Conservative management of Sthoulya through Ayurvedic principle provides significant relief and improves quality of life so has been presented in this article.
Amlapiita is a very common disease of present era and a disease of Annavaha Strotas, and is commonly observed in these days of modernization and industrialization. 30% of the general population is suffering from gastro-oesophageal reflux and gastritis resulting in heartburn. It is very troublesome disease and can give rise to many serious problems if not treated in time. Signs and symptoms of Amlapiita are very similar to gastritis or hyperacidity. According to conventional medical science the most common causes of gastritis are H. pylori infections and prolonged use of Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS). Gastritis is believed to affect about half of people worldwide. In 2015 there were approximately 90 million new cases of this condition. As people get older the disease becomes more common. It, along with a similar condition in the first part of the intestines known as duodenitis, resulted in 50,000 deaths in 2017. The five procedure of Panchakarma done through several procedures purify the body system by removing morbid Doshas from the body. These purification methods are essential components of the curative management of these diseases that are not controlled by palliative management.
Ayurveda Panchakarma practitioner never use to think that where the oil, catheter, plastic bottles of oil and Ghee, gloves, blood, paper, powder, waste water and organic waste used in the Panchakarma end up after disposal, or considered how much water, electricity, paper and other resources our Panchakarma theatre uses. Construction and running of non-environment friendly Panchakarma theatre is not leading towards a green and clean planet. Ayurvedic practitioner need to take an evaluation of their Panchakarma practice considering the effects on the planet. Though individual Panchakarma Center generate only small amounts of waste, the accumulated waste produced by the profession may have significant environmental impact. Thus, there is need of thinking about the eco-friendly Panchakarma practice. Eco-friendly Panchakrama is an environment friendly way of practicing Ayurveda by using techniques and equipment to reduce waste, conserve energy, decrease pollution, and reduce harmful impact on planet. The incorporation of eco-friendly practice to the Panchakarma is not only effective from an environmental perspective but is cost-effective for the practitioner too. This article reviews the scientific literature on eco-friendly practices and suggests comprehensive steps to start an eco-friendly Panchakarma center.
Panchakarma is a fruitful measure and its extensive efficacies are classified in different dimensions to cure different types of complicated diseases. Vamana, Virechana, Niruha, Anuvasana and Nasya are the five procedures and subsequently even Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Rakta Mokshana are broadly termed as Panchakarma in day to day practices.The new diseases are evolving with intense gravity and therefore to combat those, Panchakarma is a very effective measure. In present era competition and advancement have led to hectic and stressful life, man has eventually forgotten the absolute enjoyment and solitary affection of nature and as a result is facing many health problems. Gridhrasi is no exception, it is correlated to sciatica in modern science where low back ache radiating to toes in the lateral aspect of the thigh associated with stiffness is the main complaint.
