A light ray, incident at about' 50 to the normal, is geometrically plotted through the drawing of the cross section of a soybean leaf using Fresnel's Equations and Snell's Law.The optical mediums of the leaf considered for ray tracing are: air, cell sap, chloroplast and cell wall. The above ray is also drawn through the same leaf cross section considering cell wall and air as the only optical mediums. The values of the reflection and transmission found from ray tracing agree closely with the experimental results obtained using a Beckman DK-2ASpe~troref1ectometer.
A laser based method was employed to measure and numerically describe the architecture of a corn canopy. Use of the method provides an interception coefficient for classes of vegetation in layers of the canopy viewed in various directions. Architectural data obtained for similar corn canopies but measured by differing methods are comparable to the results obtained using the laser based method. These results provide input data to mathematical models employed in remote sensing for describing the radiation environment in a plant canopy and predicting its reflectance.
Eight channel Skylab multispectral scanner data obtained in January, 1974, was used in a level two land-use analysis of Allen County, Indiana. The data set which includes one visible channel, four near infrared channels, two middle infrared channels, and one far infrared channel was from the X-5 detector array of the $-192 experiment in the Earth Resources Experiment Package on board the Skylab space station. The results indicate that a good quality far infrared (thermal) channel is very valuable for land use mapping during the winter months.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
