a n Para-Toluidin. Man achte darauf, bei jeder Versuehsreihe den Titer der iitherischen 0xals~urelSsung festzustellen, da derselbe der Flfichtigkeit des Aethers wegen Sehwankungen unterworfen ist. R a a b e versuchte statt der AuflSsung der 0xalsi~ure in Aether eine solche in Wasser zu benutzen. Er erhielt gute Resultate, wenn das Ausfi~llen des Para-Toluidinoxalats bei 0 ° bewirkt wurde. N~here Mittheilungen gedenkt der Yerfasser demni~chst zu maehen. Ebenso gelangte der Verfasser mit folgender Methode zu einer genauen und rasehen Bestimmung des Para-Toluidins. Man ftigt zu einem Handelstoluidin so viel abgewogenes Para-Toluidin, bis eine an letzterem so reiehe Misehung erhalten wird, das sich deren Erstarrungspunkt bestimmen l~sst. Ein in 1/~o° C. eingetheiltes Thermometer, yon 3 0-5 0 0 C. gehend, zeigt noch Unterschiede yon 0 , 2~ Para-Toluidin an. Als Norm stellt man sich UrlSsungen, enthaltend 82,5, 83, 83,5, 84, 84,5 und 8 5~ Para-Toluidin, dar und bestimmt deren Erstarrungspunkte. Dureh Vergleichung lernt man den Gehalt des angereicherten Handels-Toluidins an Para-Toluidin kennen und durch Umrechnung den des Handels-T01uidins selbst: Es empfiehlt sich, stets mit gleichen Mengen zu arbeiten. Man liest entweder die Temperatur der beginnenden ErStarrung ab, wenn das Thermometer seine fallende Bewegung einstellt, oder die bei f o r tgesetzter Krystallisation nach einer kurzen Steigung des Thermometers um circa 0,5 o eintretende constante Temperatur. Die bei dieser Bestimmung zu verwendenden Toluidine mfissen wasserfrei sein. Ueber den Einfluss des Wassers gedenkt Verfasser weitere Mittheilungen zu maehen.
Aequivalentgewiehte der Elemente. 625 besten mit Hülfe der Lupe zu beobachtenden Farbenwandlungen der Schriftzüge durch die Reagentien, sondern auch die Zeit, in welcher dieselben hervorgebracht werden, von Wichtigkeit. Tage und Wochen lang, nachdem die Reagentien angeweMet worden sind, können 1roch die eingeleiteten Reactionen weiter fortschreiten. Sollen Schriftzüge eisenhaltiger Tinte, welche z. B. zwecks Fälschung auf chemischem Wege durch Zerstörung der Gallusfärbung verlöscht worden sind, wieder sichtbar gemacht werden, So befestigt man das zu prüfende Papier nach P. P a l m i eri*) über einem Glase, in weichem sich eine Mischung aus concentrirter Salzsäure und concentrirter Lösung von Kaliumsuifocyanid befindet, und bedeckt das Ganze mit einer Glocke. Die Dämpfe der frei werdenden Sulfocyanwasserstoffsäure färben das Papier rosa, während die eisenhaltigen Spuren der verlösehten Schrift durch die gemeinschaftliche Einwirkung von Salzsäure-und Rhodanwasserstoffdämpfen intensiv roth werden. Zur Ueberführung dieser vergänglichen Färbung in Schwarz kann man die betreffenden Stellen mit einem in Galläpfelauszug getauchten B5usehchen befeuchten. ¥. Aequivulentgewichte der Elemente. N i l s on**) durch Ueberführen der reinen Erden in die Sulfate bestimmt und dabei, unter Anwendung von Erden verschiedener Darstellungen, folgende Besultate gefunden: Für das Ytterbium gaben 7 Versuche im Mittel 86,50, wenn ma~l die Formel der Ytterbinerde zu Yb 2 0 a und das Aequivalentgewicht des Sauerstoffs ~-8 annimmt. Für das Scandium gaben 4 Versuche unter den gleichen Annahmen im Mittel 22,01. Auf die sehr umständliche Art der Reindarstellung der Substanzen kann ich hier nicht näher eingehen, sondern muss mich mit dem Hinweis auf das Original begnügen.
