This study was aimed to determine the germination process of seeds with different scarification treatments. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada, July 2019. The treatment in this research were different scarification methods of the seeds by sanding (P1), wounding (P2), soaking in H2SO4 (P3), soaking in warm water (P4), and baking at 55º C for 10 minutes (P5). Each treatment using 30 long bean seed that has been repeated for 3 times. Based on the five treatments, the seeds were planted in soil media and their growth observed for 14 days. The results showed that the seed growth for 14 days from the five treatments give an indication that the germination process and the first leaves grow out from long bean seeds was happen in treatment by oven 55º C (P5). Based on these results, it can be concluded that different scarification methods affected on the seed germination process. The fastest seed germination process to produce optimum growth in long bean plants was the scarification treatment by heating the seeds using an oven 55º C for 10 minutes (P5) before the seeds were planted.
EFFECT OF PLANTING MEDIA COMPOSITION AND ATONIC GCS ON THE GROWTH OF COCOA SEEDS (Theobroma cacao L.)]. Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is one of the essential crop commodities which has an excellent opportunity improving community welfare. This study aimed to determine the effect of combination planting media with the atonic growth control substances (GCS) on the growth of cocoa seedlings. The research was conducted in Tanjung Sari area, Medan, North Sumatera from March to June 2019. The research was carried out using randomized block design (RBD) with two factors of planting media and atonic GCS. The first factor was the composition of the growing media in the form of manure, ultisol soil, and sand which consists of 4 combinations, namely control, ratio of 1:1:1, ratio of 1:2:1, and ratio of 1: 3:1. The second factor was 4 levels of atonic GCS, namely without atonic GCS application at a control, 1 cc/L, 2 cc/L water, and 3 cc/L water. The results showed that the combination of planting media consisting of manure, ultisol, and sand with a ratio of 1: 3: 1 showed a significant effect to increased plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and leaf area of cocoa seedlings. The atonic GCS of 3 cc/L water significantly increased plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and leaf area of cocoa seeds. The interaction between the growing media composition and the concentration of GCS atonic significantly affected the number of leaves. However, it was not significant for plant height, stem diameter, and leaf area of cocoa seeds. The conclusions are that the composition of the planting medium and atonic growth control substances significantly affected the growth of cocoa seedlings.
Mycorrhizal can provide plant resistance when drought came. Thus, this study aims to examine the effect of stress drought and mycorrhizal dose on the growth of Boci Sawala Pandanga Morotai local peanuts. The study was conducted at the BPTP screen house North Maluku in Kusu Village, Tidore Kepulauan City, North Maluku Province from March to June 2022 with the elevation of 50m above sea level. It utilized a factorial design with 2 factors. The first factor is the drought (K) 2 levels (K0 = optimal and K1 = stress), and the second factor is mycorrhizal (M) 4 levels (M0 = 0 g/polybag, M1 = 20 g/polybag, M2 = 25 g/polybag, M3 = 30 g/polybag) with 3 replications. The parameters observed consisted of relative growth rate, flowering age, and number of gynophores. The fingerprint results showed that the Boci Swala Pandanga Morotai local peanuts cultivar is tolerant to drought conditions which can be seen from the relative growth rate, number of ginophores, and the fastest flower. With drought stress conditions by giving mycorrhiza 30 g/polybag of peanuts land, it still grew and worked.
