Cricket was the first sport to publish recommended methods for injury surveillance in 2005. Since then, there have been changes to the nature of both cricket and injury surveillance. Researchers representing the major cricket playing nations met to propose changes to the previous recommendations, with an agreed voting block of 14. It was decided that 10 of 14 votes (70%) were required to add a new definition element and 11 of 14 (80%) were required to amend a previous definition. In addition to the previously agreed ‘Match time-loss’ injury, definitions of ‘General time-loss’, ‘Medical presentation’, ‘Player-reported’ and ‘Imaging-abnormality’ injuries are now provided. Further, new injury incidence units of match injuries per 1000 player days, and annual injuries per 100 players per year are recommended. There was a shift towards recommending a greater number of possible definitions, due to differing contexts and foci of cricket research (eg, professional vs amateur; injury surveillance systems vs specific injury category studies). It is recommended that researchers use and report as many of the definitions as possible to assist both comparisons between studies within cricket and with those from other sports.

Two babies with sirenomelia are described. Case 1, one of twins, showed the full sirenomelia sequence in conjunction with atelencephaly and cebocephaly. Case 2 had malformations consistent with a diagnosis of the VATER association. Review of the literature indicates that the basic defect in sirenomelia and the VATER association lies in the formation and differentiation of mesodermal tissue and that sirenomelia, the VATER association, and monozygotic twinning show a complex etiological interrelationship.

Abstract-In this article we introduce a new strategy for optimal diversification which combines elements of Diversified Risk Parity [1], [2] and Diversification Ratio [3], with emphasis on positive risk premiums. The Uncorrelated Positive Bets strategy involves the identification of reliable, independent sources of randomness and the quantification of their positive risk premium. We use principal component analysis to identify the most significant sources of randomness contributing to the market and then apply the Randomness Deficiency Coefficient metric [4] and principal portfolio positivity to identify a set of reliable uncorrelated positive bets. Portfolios are then optimized by maximizing their diversified positive risk premium. We contrast the performance of a range of diversification strategies for a portfolio held for a two-year out-of-sample period with a 30 stock constraint. In particular, we introduce the notion of diversification inefficiency to explain why diversification strategies might outperform the market.
