This research aims to find out how to improve students’ speaking ability by using Story Completion Technique. The writers applied Collaborative Classroom Action Research as the method of research, where there are four steps that must be followed, they are: planning, action, observation and reflection. In this research, the writers only conducted one cycle due to the fact that the result of the test has been successful. There are 30 eighth grader students of SMPN 1 Takengon as the sample of this research. The data were taken from observation and students’ speaking test in pre-test and post-test, then were analyzed quantitatively. The result of the cycle was described qualitatively. From the results of the research, it was found that using Story Completion Technique in speaking lesson was very enjoyable and it encouraged students to speak more fluently. It can be proven from the result of pretest and posttest, which showed that the posttest score is higher than that of the pre-test (2204 for the pretest and 1640 for the posttest). That means the pre-test score is 54.67 and the post-test score is 73.47.
<p class="abstrak"><em>The research aims to analyze the needs of development teaching writing material ‘genre’ based on students’ local culture in Central Aceh. Mix methodologies are conducted in collecting the data, interviewing the teacher and giving the questionnaires to the students. The participants of this research are two English teachers and thirty students of tenth grade from two different Islamic High Schools in Central Aceh. The samples are taken by conducting purposive sampling. The result of the study showed three things; first, writing is the most difficult skill for students to be mastered, second, teaching material based on local culture has not been available yet, the last, teaching writing material ‘genre’ based on local culture is needed in order to improve students’ writing ability.</em></p>
The research aimed at finding out the problems faced by undergraduate students and strategies they used to overcome problems during the process of research and writing thesis. This research generally employed a qualitative approach, but some data were analyzed quantitatively. The sample of the research involved the eighth and tenth semester students of English Education Department at Islamic State University of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. The data were obtained through questionnaire and interview. The result revealed that most of the students got problems in how to begin the research while only few students got difficulty in working with the advisors. In addition, strategies mostly used by the students to overcome the problems were reading many books, journals and articles related to the topic whereas the strategy of asking somebody to analyze the data was at the lowest rate. Therefore, it could be concluded that the students could be able to solve their problems they faced during the thesis writing process by applying the strategies.
Anak merupakan generasi penerus yang sedang berkembang dan sangat membutuhkan pendampingan akhlak dari lingkungan, terutama orang tua dan keluarga. Namun, tidak semua anak dapat merasakan kasih sayang dari orang tua dan keluarganya. Sebagian anak, ada yang sudah tidak memiliki orang tua dan keluarga. Hidup mandiri pada panti asuhan. Sehingga diperlukan pembinaan akhlak baik dari panti asuhan itu sendiri, maupun dari sukarelawan yang khusus bergerak pada bidang sosial seperti TripleP Takengon. Kegiatan pembinaan akhlak yang dilakukan oleh TripleP Takengon meliputi: Kajian Tafsir Remaja, Kajian Ibadah, Bahasa Inggris, Bahasa Arab, Kesenian serta pemberian motivasi kepada anak-anak Panti Asuhan Budi Luhur Kabupaten Aceh Tengah. Dengan adanya kegiatan tersebut, diharapkan anak-anak panti Asuhan Budi Luhur Kabupaten Aceh Tengah memiliki skill dalam bahasa, serta memiliki kepribadian yang baik agar senantiasa menjadi anak yang berguna dikemudian hari.
