The use of an anesthesia information management system facilitated analysis of intraoperative physiologic data and identified certain intraoperative incidents with high sensitivity and specificity. A low level of compliance with voluntary reporting of defined intraoperative incidents was found for all anesthesiologists studied. Finally, there was a strong association between intraoperative incidents and in-hospital mortality.
Moderate or severe bradycardia may occur at any time during neuraxial anesthesia, regardless of the duration of anesthesia. Low baseline heart rate increases the risk for bradycardia.
IMBI is a safe, readily available, cost-effective, and underutilized technique that facilitates rapid identification of parathyroid adenomas, helps distinguish normal glands from hyperplastic glands, and helps to locate ectopic glands. An overall reduction in operative time, especially for bilateral neck exploration, can be anticipated.
