There are a significant number of lexical borrowings from Arabic language to Indonesian language. Among of them are the words jahanam and hijrah. These words are diachronically can be traced and found in literatures and religious texts. This paper seeks to scrutinize the semantic change of jahanam and hijrah. This paper analyses jahanam and hijrah as they are used in both old manuscripts and modern texts. To see their semantic change behaviour, collocation and concordance of their contexts were analysed. The manuscripts employed as the source of research data were taken from the Malay Concordance Project (MCP) which comprises of 165 classical Malay literatures containing some Islamic texts, Corpora Collection Leipzig University, and WebCorp Live Birmingham City University. Using the corpus linguistics method, this research manages to demonstrate how words change semantically through time. The results of this study can be used as material for the preparation of the Indonesian-Arabic etymology dictionary.
Instagram is one of the social media platforms that used as a media for educational purposes. This study aimed at investigating university students' perceptions of using Instagram as an online platform to explore their creativity in English writing skill. The study used a quantitative research design. The participants of this study were students of the English Education Department of Universitas Islam Negeri Surabaya, who took a Writing English course and used Instagram in their learning activity. The questionnaire was used to collect data of this present research in the form of five-point Likert scale statements that expressed in strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. The descriptive quantitative were conducted on the data of analyzing the students' perceptions of using Instagram to know their responses. The findings indicated that the students demonstrated positive perceptions in using Instagram to interact with their lecture and classmates on Instagram to improve their English writing ability. The result of this research can inform that the use of Instagram in teaching writing can also shape them to become more creative and enjoyable in English writing learning.
With the rapid development of the internet, learning technology responds to the birth of e-learning with the vast use of a various Learning Management System (LMS) software to facilitate online learning in a structured manner. Moodle is an LMS developed by Martin Dougiamas which has four basic concepts, namely: constructivism, constructionism, social constructionism, connect and separate. Several studies have shown that learning reform that combines Moodle with conventional classes, shows an increase in student knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour. This study aims to compile a student’s perception on Moodle-based e-learning model in clinical skills learning in the Medical Faculty. This qualitative case study adopted the ‘define’ and ‘develop’ phases of the 4D model of a module development. The informants were 11 fourth-year medical students, at the academic phase of a medical school at Universitas Islam Bandung, Indonesia. This study was conducted using unstructured in-depth interviews and small group discussions. The verbatim data were transcribed using Microsoft Word and analysed using NVivo ver.12 software. Four major themes emerged from the define phase: teaching materials, training evaluation, student’s learning styles, and the weaknesses of the conventional clinical skills training. This research described that conventional way of clinical skills learning has many limitations and suggested that the use of e-learning based module such as Moodle, could be used as a blended learning approach and can cover the shortcomings of conventional learning methods in clinical skills teaching of the medical students.
Lexical bundles have recently commenced to attract huge attention in corpusbased research. Knowledge of lexical bundles is essential for students learning foreign language, especially those with English for specific purposes. By employing data driven learning, students are able to lead their awareness and learning autonomy in guiding their language discovery tasks. This paper showcases the facets and usage of Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and Lexical Tutor for English vocabulary teaching and learning. In addition, this article provides introductory description of a practical corpus tool for discovering English lexical bundles and how integrating the corpus in teaching for boosting students' vocabulary. The main features of the tool such as N-gram underpins in this paper.
Digital game becomes more familiar in this young generation. Most of the people particularly young generation love to play game using their personal mobile phone and it seems like to be their habits. In addition, digital games are free for everyone to play as long as they connect to the Internt connection. To exploit this situation, teacher uses it as teaching and learning media to improve students vocabulary in the matter of stduents problem to improve their vocabulary. There are lot of studies which is experimented by digital games to improve vocabulary for their students but only a little talk about the kind of digital game able to be used for improving it. This study is aimed to analyse the digital game especially word game which is available in the play store that suitable for teaching based on the basic competence for seventh grade in curriculum 2013. This study found that only 58,20% of the sutability between the word game and the basic competence.
