Abstract:The purpose of this study was to carry out an inventory of medium and large-sized mammal species occurring in the Mata Atlântica State Park (MASP). Located in Água Limpa municipality, state of Goiás, the MASP occupies an important area with a seasonal forest remnant, which is considered an enclave of the Atlantic Forest within the Cerrado biome. From October 2012 to December 2013, MASP's area was randomly surveyed for evidence of mammal presence. Records of 23 species of wild mammals were obtained, seven of them listed as nationally endangered. Medium and large-sized mammal species composition is characteristic of the Cerrado biome, and no endemic species of the Atlantic Forest were recorded. Richness and diversity of the mammal species recorded in MASP show the importance of this protected area for in situ conservation.
We evaluated the effect of initial spacing on the distribution of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla tree diameters in a Nelder wheel design. The study area was in west-central Brazil. A Nelder wheel design with three repetitions was used. This design provides 432 planting spots per plot/repetition. Planting density varied from 0.50 m² to 41.25 m². The diameter at breast height was measured for all plants every four months until 36 months of age, totaling eight measurements. The description of the diameter distribution was developed by fitting probability density functions for each spacing and age. The quality of fit was evaluated using the root mean square error percentage, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (α < 0.05). The spacings up to 1.17 m² must be harvested in less than two years, since it is noted that in the third year the increment in diameter is static and the mortality rate increases. The spacing highly affects the diameter structure of the population, impelling the forester to consider different uses for the wood. For wood requiring larger diameters, spacing above 8.69 m² per tree is recommended
ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TREATMENTS FOR SEED DORMANCY BREAKING OF Delonix regia (Hook.) Raf ABSTRACT Delonix regia (Hook.) Raf., popularly known as flamboyant, is an ornamental exotic arboreal species, belonging to the family of the Fabaceas, its seeds have dormancy of integumentary type. The objective of this study was to verify the effectiveness of
Considering the importance of optimizing forest production, plant spacing is one of the most relevant silvicultural practices, as it holds ecological, silvicultural, and economic implications to the final product. Therefore, this study set out to assess the influence of spacing on the initial growth and production variables of hybrid clones of Eucalyptus urophylla S. T. Blake x Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden planted in a Nelder (fan-shaped) design. Plant densities ranged from 0.50 m² to 41.25 m² in area-per-plant. Variables such as total height, diameter, and volume were observed at 16, 24, and 36 months. A descriptive statistical analysis, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and cluster analysis of averages were used to evaluate the effect of spacing on the variables in question. Different spacings were found to exert significant influences on growth in height, diameter, and volume.
A topic of great interest in forestry research is recognizing the behavior of stands planted at different spacings to optimize the potential of producing multiple products. This study aimed to assess the future production of multiple products from Eucalyptus sp. planted at 12 different spacings. The study area was in central Brazil. A Nelder systematic design with three replications was used. This design yielded 432 planting spots per plot per replicate. Diameter at breast height (DBH) and total height were measured for all trees from 4 to 36 months of age. In addition, the volume of five trees for the spacings of 16, 24, and 36 months of age was measured. Subsequently, an equation system was fitted for each area to project the Weibull 3P probability density function parameters: minimum diameter, maximum diameter, and the number of trees. The current and mean annual increments were assessed based on the total volume. Trees of 36 and 48 months of age were compared between the population designed for multiple products (Scenario I) and the population designed for only one product (Scenario II). The results showed that spacing affects the technical harvest age and that 0.77 m² and 1.76 m² are optimal for a short-term regime
