Fifty diverse Brinjal accessions were evaluated to estimate variability, heritability and genetic advance for thirteen biometric characters at Varagoorpettai village near Annamalainagar, Chidambaram during 2018-2020. High PCV and GCV were recorded for fruit yield per plant, number of fruits per cluster, seeds per fruit, individual fruit weight, leaf area, number of fruits per plant, fruit length, number of flowers per cluster and plant height while, low PCV and GCV was found for days to 50% flowering and days to first harvest. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was recorded for plant height, leaf area, number of flowers per cluster, number of fruits per cluster, individual fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, number of fruits per plant, seeds per fruit and 100 seed weight exhibiting that the traits are controlled by additive gene action. Therefore, direct selection may be followed for improving brinjal yield by examining these characters.
The yield of Tinda in respon se to the effect of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers was evaluated at the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu during March-May, 2015. More number of fruits (14.41), highest single fruit weight (50.68g) and highest yield per plant (722.69g) were obtained with treatments comprising 75 per cent recommended dose of fertilizers package coupled with vermicompost @ 2t ha-1 along with Azospirillum and phosphobacteria @ 2 kg ha-1 .
Microplot field trial was conducted from March to May 2017 to assess the efficacy of various biopesticides, pathogen, predator and parasitoid against M. vitrata on lablab (var. Co Gb 14). The experiments were carried out in a randomized block design (RBD) with nine treatments and three replications. Results revealed that spinosad 45% SC @ 75 ml ha-1 was significantly superior to all other treatments by recording a cumulative mean population reduction of 72.58 per cent. The next in the order of efficacy were emamectin benzoate 5% SG @ 200 ml ha-1 (65.16 %) > sequential application of emamectin benzoate (200 ml ha-1) + Bracon brevicornis (2000 adults ha-1 released after fortnight) (63.70%) > emamectin benzoate (100 ml ha-1) + B. brevicornis (1000 adults ha-1) @ half the dose each (62.06 %) > azadirachtin 0.03% @ 2.5 L ha-1 (39.33 %) > B. brevicornis @ 2000 adults ha-1(32.77 %) > Crude suspension of B. bassiana (Bb 112) @ 108 Spores ml-1 (25.95 %) > Xylocoris flavipes @ 40,000 adults ha-1 (20.22 %).
: A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers on growth parameters in Tinda. There were 13 treatments comprised of organic manures viz., FYM (25 t ha -1 ), vermicompost (2.5 t ha -1 ), neemcake (1000 kg ha
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
