We report the synthesis of N-doped TiO(2) nanofibers and high photocatalytic efficiency in generating hydrogen from ethanol-water mixtures under UV-A and UV-B irradiation. Titanate nanofibers synthesized by hydrothermal method are annealed in air and/or ammonia to achieve N-doped anatase fibers. Depending on the synthesis route, either interstitial N atoms or new N-Ti bonds appear in the lattice, resulting in slight lattice expansion as shown by XPS and HR-TEM analysis, respectively. These nanofibers were then used as support for Pd and Pt nanoparticles deposited with wet impregnation followed by calcination and reduction. In the hydrogen generation tests, the N-doped samples were clearly outperforming their undoped counterparts, showing remarkable efficiency not only under UV-B but also with UV-A illumination. When 100 mg of catalyst (N-doped TiO(2) nanofiber decorated with Pt nanoparticles) was applied to 1 L of water-ethanol mixture, the H(2) evolution rates were as high as 700 μmol/h (UV-A) and 2250 μmol/h (UV-B) corresponding to photo energy conversion percentages of ∼3.6 and ∼12.3%, respectively.
The non-volatility, structure-tunability, and high CO 2 uptake capacity render ionic liquids (ILs) the most exciting materials for the carbon dioxide (CO 2) capture and fixation to value-added chemicals. The aim of this mini-review is to give a brief idea about the development of the potential ILs for CO 2 capture, the mechanism involved in the CO 2 binding and the application of ILs in the conversion of CO 2 to useful chemicals. The mechanisms and nature of interactions in between IL-CO 2 have been discussed in terms of the nature of cation, anion, presence of functional group, and the extent of interaction between the components of ILs. The fixation of CO 2 to linear and cyclic carbonates and electroreduction of CO 2 to carbon-rich fuels in ILs has been accounted in detail. At the end, future challenges in terms of commercializing the ILs for CO 2 capture and utilization technology are discussed.
Solid imidazolium-based poly(ionic liquid)s with variable molecular weights that contain the poly[2-(1-butylimidazolium-3-yl)ethyl methacrylate] (BIEMA) cation and different counter anions were evaluated in terms of CO2 capture and compared with classical ionic liquids with similar counter anions. In addition to poly(ionic liquid)s with often-applied ions such as BF4 (-) , PF6 (-) , NTf2 (-) , trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf(-) ) and Br(-) , for the first time [BIEMA][acetate] was synthesised, which revealed a remarkably high CO2 sorption performance that exceeded the poly(ionic liquid)s studied previously on average by a factor of four (12.46 mg gPIL (-1) ). This study provides an understanding of the factors that affect CO2 sorption and a comparison of the CO2 capture efficiency with the frequently used sorbents. Moreover, all the studied sorbents were reusable if regenerated under carefully selected conditions and can be considered as suitable candidates for CO2 sorption.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
