The paper will address social online engagement in 3D environments, particularly Second Life through the SLARiPS (Second Life Augmented Reality in Physical Space) Project. The research aims to explore ideologies of post human existence, particularly notions of identity and the authorship of created content in 3D online platforms and how such processes deterritorialise the body through transforming screens into hypersurfaces. The research aims to develop a body of work that explores the boundaries of mixed reality interaction and through direct participatory action based research, analyse the cultural significance of the outcomes. .
Welcome to the ISMAR MASH'D Program. In bringing Mixed and Augmented Reality to "everywhere, everything and everyone" it takes "every discipline." We have added the research disciplines of Social Science and Design to Art, Media and Humanities to more fully explore the human impact of Mixed and Augmented Reality innovation. As the explosive growth of our research reach millions of more users around the world, each discipline examines different research questions that add a unique perspective on how the inventions from Science and Technology transform into everyday applications to enrich our lives. However, each discipline does not act in isolation. As in a musical "mash-up," our contributors explore the novel approaches to integrate investigation in the Media, Arts, Social Science, Humanities and Design (MASH'D) and transform evolving technical capabilities into creative possibilities; transforming invention into innovation.Media examines emerging and converging creative media conventions to advance communication and engagement.Art challenges audiences with new creative leaps of expression to push the technological limitations and question preconceived ideas.Social Science brings meaning to measure in how next generation talent, techniques and technology impact and extend our abilities.Humanities brings enlightening discourse in our evolving human experience where reality, virtuality and the imagination are one world.Design brings new processes and taxonomies to our creative problem-solving capabilities so we can better convey and connect. This year we are featuring a Mixed and Augmented Reality Art Show to inspire the ISMAR communities in making creative leaps and challenge the perspectives of the rapidly growing number of new users. Our Papers, Posters and Panels provide a showcase of research projects to spark discourse in other disciplines. We hope that this convergence of invention, investigation and inquiry can do more to inspire next year's contributions as it does to represent the advancement of last year. We invite you into this dialogue in order to inspire your participation and contribution to next year's advancements.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
