Resumen. En este documento se realiza una caracterización del mercado de derivados cambiarios colombiano. En primer lugar, se realiza una comparación del tamaño de este mercado frente a países desarrollados y de América Latina. Posteriormente, se analiza la evolución de este mercado en términos de montos negociados por instrumento y la participación de los distintos sectores económicos. Adicionalmente, se presenta un análisis de los instrumentos más utilizados y de los usos que los distintos tipos de agentes le dan a este mercado. Con respecto a este punto se resalta la creciente importancia de los agentes extranjeros en el mercado de derivados sobre divisas en Colombia.Abstract. This document provides an in-depth analysis of the Foreign Exchange derivatives market in Colombia. It begins by making a comparison among Colombia´s market size and both developed and Latin American countries. It also analyses the development of these markets based on traded volume by instrument and market participants. Throughout this document we analyze the evolution of each derivative instrument and the use given to these markets by different market participants (i.e. hedging and speculative purposes). BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA RESUMEN. El presente documento estudia la relación de las tasas de los bonos de deuda pública del Gobierno colombiano denominados en pesos (COLT ES) emitidos en el mercado local y las de aquellos denominados en dólares colocados en mercados internacionales (COLUSD), teniendo en cuenta un conjunto de variables locales y externas que afectan su comportamiento. Para ello se utilizó un modelo VARX-MGARCH, utilizando datos diarios entre junio de 2004 y diciembre de 2014. Los principales resultados muestran evidencia de que los COLUSD han sido un canal a través del cual las señales externas se han transmitido al mercado local. Para el periodo posterior a la crisis financiera internacional de 2008 se encontró evidencia de que esto ha venido cambiando de tal forma que los choques externos se han transmitido directamente en las variables locales, lo que se explica principalmente por una mayor apertura de la cuenta de capitales, la participación de los inversionistas extranjeros en el mercado local y las mejores condiciones macroeconómicas y financieras del país. Adicionalmente, dentro de los resultados se destaca que el impacto de los Treasuries (T RSY ) sobre las variables del modelo estimado revela señales de dos tipos de choques: monetario y de riesgo internacional; y que hay evidencia de un mayor efecto del precio del petróleo sobre las tasas de los bonos en el periodo reciente. Resumen. En este documento, se realiza una caracterización del mercado de deuda corporativa colombiano, entendido como el mercado de bonos. En primer lugar, se realiza una comparación del tamaño de este mercado frente a otros países de la región y frente al mercado de deuda pública local, encontrando un rezago importante en los dos frentes.
