Dams for water supply usually represent an untapped hydroelectric potential. It is a small energetic potential, in most situations, usually requiring a particular solution to be viable. The use of pumps as power turbines often represents an alternative that enables the power generation in hydraulic structures already in operation, as is the case of dams in water supply systems. This potential can be exploited in conjunction with the implementation of PV modules on the water surface, installed on floating structures, both operating in a hydro PV hybrid system. The floating structure can also contribute to reducing the evaporation of water and providing a small increase in hydroelectric power available. This paper presents a pre-feasibility study for implementation of a hydroelectric power plant and PV modules on floating structures in the reservoir formed by the dam of Val de Serra, in southern Brazil. The dam is operated to provide drinking water to about 60% of the population of the city of Santa Maria, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. The pre-feasibility study conducted with Homer software, version Legacy, indicated that the hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 227 kW can operate together with 60 kW of PV modules. This combination will result (in one of the configurations considered) in an initial cost of USD$ 1715.83 per kW installed and a cost of energy of USD$ 0.059/kWh.

R ESU M OO fósforo é um elemento químico chave para a qualidade da água, agindo principalmente como gatilho desencadeador das florações algais. A principal fonte de fósforo nas pequenas bacias rurais advém da agricultura feita nas encostas das bacias, podendo chegar de várias formas ao corpo d'água, porém as formas mais impactantes são o fósforo reativo total e o dissolvido. A forma dissolvida é a que apresenta maiores riscos pois pode percorrer distâncias comparativamente maiores do que o fósforo reativo nos sedimentos em suspensão que podem acabar depositados ao longo do caminho. Portanto, este trabalho visa avaliar se diferentes coberturas do solo por culturas anuais podem interferir no arraste destas formas de fósforo, afetando o risco da degradação dos recursos hídricos das pequenas bacias rurais. Apesar de não ter havido diferença significativa entre os tratamentos, verificou-se sazonalidade ao longo do experimento representando uma estação de cultivo. Isto significa que houve variação do nível de risco, uma vez que, no terço inicial das primeiras chuvas, o risco de arraste de fósforo na enxurrada foi mais elevado em relação a períodos chuvosos mais distantes da época de plantio/fertilização, tornando-se possível avaliar o risco à bacia de forma sazonal e não anual.Palavras-chave: pequenas bacias rurais; gestão do ambiente agrícola; contaminantes de origem agrícola Reactive phosphorus: Surface transport under simulated rainfall for different vegetation cover A B ST R A C T Phosphorus is a chemical element considered key to water quality, mainly acting as a trigger of algal blooms. The main source of phosphorus in small rural basins is agriculture practiced in the slopes of the basins. This phosphorus can come in various forms to the water body, but the most striking ones are the total and dissolved reactive phosphorus. The dissolved form has higher risks, because it can cover distances comparatively larger than the reactive phosphorus in suspension which can be deposited along the path. This study sought to determine if different coverage of annual crops can interfere in the transport of these forms of phosphorus, affecting the risk of degradation of water resources of small rural watersheds. Although there was no significant difference between treatments, but seasonality was verified along the experiment representing a growing season. This means that there was also some variation in the level of risk, since, in the first third of the first rains, the risk of entrainment of phosphorus in runoff was higher in relation to rainy periods more distant from the planting/fertilization period, making possible to assess the risk to the watershed in a seasonal way rather than annual.

Probably the most important environmental challenge of this century is to adapt to climate change and develop strategies to minimize its effects. This study aims to conduct an investigation to detect changes in temperature and precipitation in the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul with the use of different general and regional circulation models (GCMs and RCMs, respectively). Seven distinct locations in the region were considered, for which there were ten different climate projections. Additionally, we investigated the frequency and intensity of extreme rainfall events using different extreme precipitation indices. These projections indicate an increase of mean annual temperature of almost 3˚C till the end of the century, as well as an increase in annual precipitation. The seasonal analysis has demonstrated that the largest increases of temperature are projected for winter and early spring and do not coincide with the summer months of the main crop cultivation (soybean) in the region. Additionally, it is expected high amounts of rain during these same months. In general, trends in extreme precipitation indices were detected for the RCM projections in most of locations. It can also be concluded that it is possible that the spatial distribution of the impacts of climate change on agriculture will not be uniform.

Uma alternativa para introduzir-se rotação de cultura seria o cultivo do milho, aproveitando-se da estrutura de irrigação utilizada para o arroz. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar diferentes manejos de irrigação e drenagem visando introduzir o milho como alternativa para rotação de cultura em Gleissolo Háplico Distrófico Típico. O experimento foi conduzido nas safras de 2013/2014 e 2014/2015, na estação experimental do IRGA em Cachoeirinha-RS. Foram testados quatro tratamentos, todos com declividade de 0,08%, ao longo do comprimento das parcelas (79 m) e com três repetições: microcamalhão com irrigação por sulco; microcamalhão sem irrigação; sem microcamalhão com irrigação por lâminas superficiais (banhos); e sem microcamalhão sem irrigação. Foram avaliados alguns indicadores de rendimento do milho e a eficiência do uso da água (EUA) nas diferentes alternativas de manejos. Na safra 2013/2014 os resultados indicam produtividade superiores a 10 t ha-1 para o tratamento irrigado e com microcamalhão. Na safra de 2014/2015 não houve diferença significativa nos tratamentos. An alternative to introduce crop rotation would be the corn crop, taking advantage of the irrigation structure used for rice. The objective of this study is to evaluate different management of irrigation and drainage aimed to introduce corn as an alternative crop in Gleissolo Háplico Distrófico Típico. The experiment was conducted in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015, in IRGA's experimental station in Cachoeirinha-RS. Four treatments were tested, each with a slope of 0.08% along the length of parcels (79 m) and three replicates: furrow irrigation and small bund; no irrigation and small bund; basin irrigation and no small bund; and irrigation and no small bund. Were evaluated some income component of corn and the water use efficiency (USA) in the different alternatives managements. In 2013/2014 the productivity results indicate higher than 10 t ha-1 for the treatment and irrigated with microcamalhão. In 2014/2015 there was no significant difference in treatments. Resumo: A rotação de culturas é uma prática para reduzir a deterioração do solo, infestação de pragas, doenças e plantas daninhas e para aumentar a renda do produtor. Sua introdução nos solos de várzea do Rio Grande do Sul pode ser favorecida pela existência da atual estrutura de drenagem usada para o cultivo do arroz, que proporciona o uso da subirrigação para as culturas de sequeiro. Este artigo avaliou o atendimento da demanda da cultura do milho pela subirrigação em um solo de várzea na Depressão Central do Rio Grande do Sul. A metodologia empregada combinou a equação de Darcy com os modelos de van Genuchten (1980) e de Vogel et al. (2001) para representar a relação entre a condutividade hidráulica e a umidade do solo. Os resultados se mostraram bastante sensíveis ao emprego de um ou outro modelo e à profundidade da camada impermeável. Em todos os casos os resultados mais confortáveis foram obtidos com a aplicação do modelo de Vogel et al. (2001) com horizonte B profundo. Para as condições atuais, representadas por drenos espaçados por 50 m, a contribuição da subirrigação atinge cerca de 20% da demanda total quando a camada impermeável é profunda. Quando a camada é superficial, essa contribuição torna-se desprezível. Com espaçamento de 25 m, o que significa duplicar a densidade de drenagem, a irrigação suplementar proporcionada pela subirrigação atinge 70% da demanda total no cenário mais favorável e 12% no menos favorável.

O fósforo em excesso no ambiente pode provocar diversos impactos negativos, com especial referência à qualidade das águas. Por isso, é necessária a adequação de metodologias para a avaliação de seu risco em relação aos recursos hídricos enfatizando, na escala de uma bacia hidrográfica, as fontes difusas agrícolas, que impõem maior dificuldade de estimativa. O objetivo deste trabalho é propor uma adaptação metodológica para quantificar o arraste de fósforo reativo dissolvido e total em áreas agrícolas, com base na influência de culturas arbóreas, de porte herbáceo e de campo nativo, além do seu manejo no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. A metodologia utilizada foi o estudo do arraste do fósforo reativo de parcelas cobertas por diferentes culturas agrícolas e relacioná-las com a metodologia do cálculo de carga máxima diária, atualmente aceita pelos órgãos ambientais do Estado para os processos de licenciamento ambiental de atividades potencialmente poluidoras. Os resultados demonstram que o cálculo de carga de fósforo contaminante, atualmente em uso, pode estar subestimando as condições brasileiras, sobremaneira para o Rio Grande do Sul e que a nova metodologia permite introduzir a variação temporal como elemento de análise no processo, permitindo que a análise para licenciamentos adote uma postura dinâmica e pontual.

The processes of water flow and water storage in the soil are directly associated with its hydraulic properties, which may vary significantly in space. Therefore, this study aimed to perform a spatial analysis of saturated hydraulic conductivity and the parameters of the soil water retention curve in the Donato basin, located in the municipality of Pejuçara, in the northwest region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with geographic coordinates between 28º 25’ 34” S and 53º 40’ 30” W, and 28º 24’ 50” S and 53º 41’ 30” W, 590 m of altitude. Undisturbed soil samples (total of 55) were collected from August to November of 2012. The results have demonstrated larger variability for hydraulic conductivity and for the parameter α of the retention curve, and allowed identifying that the high spatial heterogeneity of the studied variables could be associated with factors such as climate, land use and land cover, sampling errors, sampling grid density and also the level of soil compaction.
