El uso de sistemas de información geográficas (SIG) , facilita modelar información específica permitiendo mayor rapidez, menor costo y precisión para la planeación de las actividades agrícolas de grandes extensiones territoriales. El objetivo de este trabajo fue utilizar los SIG como apoyo para el planteamiento del uso potencial del suelo de la cuenca Balsas Mezcala ; se utilizó la técnica de análisis multicriterio, que permite considerar problemas de decis i ón con múltiples objetivos y criterios del tipo geopedoló gicos (geomorfología y suelo), climatología (modelos térmicos y pluviométricos) y los requerimientos edafo - climatol ó gicos de los cultivos. L a región hidrológica Balsas Mezcala localizada en los esta dos de Guerrero y Puebla se eligió como zona de estudio; a través de material cartográfico se delimito el área y se obtuvo información climática de las estaciones meteorológicas, la información geográfica y bases de datos se recolectaron de distintas depen dencias gubernamentales (INEGI, SEMARNAT, CONABIO, CONAGUA, IMTA), dicha información se procesó en el programa ArcGIS versión 10.2.2, para obtener las geodatabases y matrices geoespaciales que sirvieron de insumo cartográfico para el análisis multicriterio . A partir de matr ices geoespaciales y datos vectoriales se generaron datos ráster , mismos que fueron sometidos a un proceso de modelación con algoritmos geoestadí stico s y a partir de un len guaje estructurado se identificaron las zonas potenciales con altos niveles de aptitud, a través de lo s atributos de las variables a las cuales se les asignaron valores de peso utilizando la metodología propuesta por el Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos ( USDA ) en 1971 y retomado por FAO para estudios de caso desde 1977 como Z onificación Agroecológica (ZAE). El resultado de la modelación con respecto a la aptitud del suelo generó 4 clases con 6 niveles de aptitud (muy apto, apto, moderadamente apto, poco apto, muy poco apto y no apto): tierras con potencial irrigable, tierras para cultivos básicos, tierras para cultivo de hortalizas y tierras para el cultivo de especies de importancia indus trial .
El objetivo del trabajo es analizar las transiciones en el cambio de uso de suelo en el estado de Puebla para el periodo de 1980 a 2016. Se utilizó información de bases de datos geográficas que muestran el uso del suelo para siete regiones económicas. Para el análisis de las transiciones del uso de suelo se calculó la tasa de cambio, se construyeron las matrices de transición, se generaron las matrices de probabilidad de cambio y se elaboró la cartografía de uso de suelo para los dos periodos estudiados. Los resultados obtenidos indican que en los últimos 36 años Puebla presenta una disminución del 21% de su cubierta vegetal, explicada primordialmente por la reducción de su superficie forestal y por el incremento de las zonas urbanas. Los mapas de uso de suelo elaborados muestran que en la parte norte del estado ha predominado la transición del uso de suelo ganadero a uso agrícola, en la parte centro-oeste de uso agrícola a uso urbano, en el suroeste de bosque a vegetación perturbada y en el sureste se observa primordialmente un tránsito del bosque a uso ganadero. Se concluye que los diferentes cambios del uso de suelo en Puebla están altamente influenciados por la cercanía a las zonas urbanas, siendo las regiones alejadas a las principales ciudades las que mantienen mayor dinamismo de la actividad agrícola y pecuaria. Estos resultados deben tomarse en cuenta en los planes de desarrollo y programas de gobierno, para un mejor aprovechamiento del territorio estatal.
