Ein Blick in ein modernes Konversationslexikon zeigt, daß der Begriff »Konversion« (lat. convertere Ð umwenden, umkehren) heutzutage ein weites Bedeutungsfeld besetzt. Die Brockhaus Enzyklopädie von 1990 listet allein elf Bereiche und Fächer auf, in deren Fachsprachen der Begriff Eingang und Verbreitung gefunden hat: Börsenwesen, Chemie, Kernphysik, Kerntechnik, Logik, Medizin, Psychologie, Recht, Sprachwissenschaft, Wirtschaft und schließlich Religionswissenschaft und Theologie. 2 Bei einer Beschäftigung mit innerchristlichen Bekenntniswechseln in den drei frühneuzeitlichen Jahrhunderten sind für eine genauere Bestimmung des Begriffs Konversion natürlich die zuletzt genannten Bereiche von Interesse. 3 Allgemein gilt, daß im biblischen Sinn »Konversion« eine Rück-1 Leicht erweiterte und mit den notwendigen Anmerkungen versehene Fassung meines Vortrags im Rahmen der Düsseldorfer Tagung; der gesprochene Wortlaut wurde im wesentlichen beibehalten. 2 Art.
