This article focuses on the analysis of schoolchildren’s writing (throughout the whole primary school period) using sets of morphological labels (n-grams). We analyzed the sets of bigrams and trigrams from a group of literary texts written by Catalan schoolchildren in order to identify which bigrams and trigrams can help discriminate between texts from the three cycles into which the Spanish primary education system is divided: lower cycle (6- and 7-year-olds), middle cycle (8- and 9-year- olds) and upper cycle (10- and 11-year-olds). The results obtained are close to 70% of correct classifications (77.5% bigrams and 68.6% trigrams), making this technique useful for automatic document classification by age.
Palabras clave: róticas; fricativas; caracterización acústica; vibrantes.ABSTRACT: Acoustic characterization of prepausal fricative rhotics in Peninsular Spanish.-The aim of this study is to present an acoustic characterization of the prepausal rothic consonants produced with a single fricative component in Peninsular Spanish. To this end, four acoustic variables that account for their spectral structure (that is, center of gravity, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) and duration were analyzed. Results were statistically compared to the spectral characteristics of fricative consonants /s/ (with which they share place of articulation) in the same position. The results show significant statistical differences among the five variables, being the center of gravity of the fricatives 2600 Hz higher than the center of gravity of the rhotics. Alveolar fricatives also show higher values for the standard deviation and for the duration. On the contrary, regarding kurtosis and skewness, fricative sounds show lower values. Finally, a correct classification rate over 94% was achieved through linear discriminant analysis taking into account only the center of gravity and skewness as discriminant variables. Keywords: rothics; fricatives; acoustic characterization; vibrants.
The first goal is to detect the positive, negative and neutral ideas contained in the papers. The second goal is to check if these ideas are significantly related with some variables, such as the type of article, the newspaper, its place of edition, its publishing language, and its distribution. Results obtained reveals that there are more negative ideas than positive or neutral, and only the type of article has a significant effect on the ideas spread by the author, but not the newspaper of origin, nor the language that are written, nor the type of distribution.
