Es wurde unter kritischer Heranziehung der einschlägigen Literatur eine eingehende Charakterisierung der Heteropolyverbindungen zu gewinnen versucht mit nachstehenden hauptsächlichen Ergebnissen.
In der im Titel erwahnten Abhandlung hat Herr HABER an meine Adresse eine Bemerkung gemacht (S. 181), welche nicht unbeantwortet bleiben kann. Diese Bemerkung lautet : ,,Wir halten fiir notwendig, darauf hinzuweisen, weil damit die Gefahr erlhtert wird, der man verfallen kann, wenn man solches Blei (Handelsblei!) fur rein ansieht, wie es Herr SMITS getan hat. E r hat eine Bleilampe angewandt, die mit I(AHLBAuM' schen Blei beschickt wrar und in ihm allmahlich Quecksilberlinien auftreten sehen. Aber ob dieses Quecksilber nicht von Hause a u s in dem KAHLBAUM' SChBn Blei enthalten war, i s t anscheinend n i c h t f e 8 t g es t ell t word en. Ganz erstaunt waren wir, mein Mitarbeiter Dr. KABSSEN und ich, als wir diese Zeilen lasen. Wir Chemiker sind gewohnt niemals eine Arbeit anzufangen, ohne zuvor die Reinheit der zu verwendenden Stoffe gepriift zu haben und wo es Untersuchungen uber Transmutationen gilt, ist natiirlich die peinlichste Sorgfalt in acht genommen worden. So haben wir die Firma KAHLBAUM ersucht uns ein extra reines Bleiprtiparat zu liefern , mSglichst frei von Quecksilber und von Thallium. Ich habe zu diesem Zwecke der Firma KAELBAUM einjge Manipulationen vorgeschlagen, speziell urn eine Verunreinigung mit Quecksilber vorzubeugen und das alles hat zu dem Resultat gefuhrt, daE die Firma KAHLBAUM uns ein Bleipraparat geliefert hat, welches von ihr ,,Extra Rein" genannt worden ist und sich sowohl chemisch-I) 2. anorg. u. allg.
