Seeds were collected from shrubs and brushwood of Lonicera involucrata (Rich .) Banks ex K . Spreng . in coastal Oregon (44-45'N) and interior British Columbia (54-55'N) . The annual shoot growth of the resulting half-sib families and populations was studied in As, Norway (60'N) . The move of these locally adapted types to a new environment revealed the great genetic variation within and between provenances . The start and duration of the growing period were mainly determined by latitude, while the growth rate varied more between provenances than within . Different statistical approaches are discussed .
Horticulture, As-NLH. Nomay). Improvement of ornamental shrubs by family selection.A one-generation selection programme for ornamental shrubs is being introduced in Nontay. Half-sib families were obtained from selected mother plants of Anielnnchier spicnrn (Lam.) K. Koch. Berberis rliiinbergii DC and Cotorieosrer Iiicidus Schlccht. The mother plants varied greatly in reproductive capacity and subsequently in the percentage of saleable offspring plants. The offspring families also shotved great variation for height. ornamental value and bush-shape. Some mother plants combined a high reproductive capacity with offspring outstanding in ornamental value. Selections were made within each species.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
