O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento completamente casualizado com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da densidade de compactação, 500 kg (médio) e 600 kg (alto) de matéria verde por metro cúbico de massa ensilada, na qualidade final da silagem em relação ao material original. A ensilagem de milho safrinha foi realizada no dia 18/05/2004 em minissilos, com quatro repetições por grau de compactação, quando os grãos de milho se encontravam no estádio ½ leitoso ½ farináceo. As densidades de compactação afetaram significativamente os teores de açúcares solúveis (1,60 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 2,15% da MS), matéria orgânica do resíduo insolúvel em etanol a 80% (76,02 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 71,53% da MS), carboidratos não-estruturais (39,21 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 41,70% dos carboidratos totais), fibra em detergente neutro corrigida para cinzas e proteína (52,57 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 50,37% da MS), lignina em detergente ácido (2,74 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 2,57% da MS) e nitrogênio amoniacal (4,35 <FONT FACE=Symbol>´</FONT> 3,84% do nitrogênio total). A maior densidade de compactação resultou em melhor conservação dos glicídios solúveis, em menor alteração dos carboidratos estruturais e em menor proteólise na silagem de milho.

RESUMO -Analisou-se o perfil de consumidores de carne bovina e determinou-se o consumo de carne com certificação visando obter dados sobre a importância e o valor da certificação da carne na hora da compra. Avaliou-se ainda o conhecimento do consumidor de carne bovina quanto à certificação da carne e quanto esse consumidor paga por este processo. A pesquisa foi realizada em uma rede de supermercados, mediante a aplicação de questionários dirigidos às pessoas próximas aos balcões com carne, independentemente da espécie animal. Os consumidores exigem alimentos com qualidade e certificados confiáveis que demonstrem e garantam a qualidade dos alimentos, porém, estão dispostos a pagar somente um pouco a mais pela certificação, em comparação ao valor atual de mercado, provavelmente pelo fato de sua renda mensal não permitir maior valorização desse atributo.Palavras-chave: consumidor, cor, maciez, preço, rastreabilidade, sanidade Willingness of consumers from Porto Alegre county, Rio Grande do Sul state, for purchasing beef meat with certificationABSTRACT -The profile of beef meat consumers was analyzed, as well as the consumption of certificated meat, with the objective of obtaining data on the importance the of certification value at the purchasing occasion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the beef meat consumers awareness regarding the meat certification and how much they are willing to pay for this process. The data survey was carried out in only one supermarket chain from the city of Porto Alegre -RS, Brazil, which authorized the research interviewing people through questionnaires, close to refrigerator counters of any meat species.It was observed that consumers are demanding for food with quality attributes, with trustful certifications that testify these quality attributes. RESUMO -O presente estudo foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de quantificar as variações das vísceras e demais componentes corporais, de forma absoluta e relativa com base no peso vivo (PV) e peso de corpo vazio (PCVZ), em função da idade de bezerros machos Holandês. Foram abatidos 18 animais, distribuídos em três idades de abate (seis ao nascimento, seis aos 50 dias e seis aos 110 dias de vida), apresentando entre 30 e 100 kg de PV ou 27,57 e 74,27 kg de PCVZ. Após o abate, as vísceras e componentes corporais foram retirados e pesados. Os dados foram submetidos a análises de correlação e regressão. Foi observado incremento de peso absoluto das vísceras e demais componentes do PV, de acordo com o aumento de PV e PCVZ, de maneira intensa até os 50 dias e moderada dos 50 aos 110 dias de vida. No entanto, houve decréscimo do peso relativo (% PV e % PCVZ), à medida que os animais se desenvolveram, com exceção do peso relativo de estômago, intestinos e conteúdo gastrintestinal, que se manteve crescente até os 110 dias de vida. Eighteen animals distributed in three slaughter age (six at birth, six at 50 days and six at 110 days of age), weighing between 30 and 100 kg LW or 27.57 and 74.27 kg EBW were slaughtered. After the slaughter, the viscera and corporal components were retired and heavy. Data were submitted to a correlation and regression analyses. An increment of absolute weight was observed of the viscera and other components of the live weight in agreement with the increase of LW and EBW, in intense way to the 50 days and moderated of the 50 to the 110 days of age. However, there was a decreased of the relative weight (% LW and % EBW) in accordance that the animals grew, for the stomach, intestines and content gastrintestinal relative weight that stayed growing until the 110 days of age.Key Words: corporal components, internal organs, viscera IntroduçãoO peso vivo (PV) do animal não é uma medida de exata utilização, visto que inclui o peso do alimento contido no trato digestivo ou digesta. This study evaluated the factors influencing the variation in the lactose content of milk in Holstein and Jersey herds in Santa Catarina, southern Brazil, using multivariate analysis. Data from 73 dairy herds in the Dairy Herds Improvement Program of the State of Santa Catarina were provided by the Santa Catarina Association of Cattle Breeders (ACCB). A total of 46,242 monthly records of Holstein and Jersey (59 and 41 % of the total records, respectively) cows from 2009 to 2012 were analyzed using multiple correspondence, factor, and cluster analyses. Lactose content was observed to correlate with somatic cell count and parity, whereas the evaluated breeds, as well as the production and concentrations of fat and protein in the milk, were not associated with the lactose content. The cows were categorized into three groups, the first consisting of cows of both breeds with low lactose content (4.19), high somatic cell score (5.82), and higher parity (2.50), contrasting with two other groups each with mean values characteristic for Holstein and Jersey breeds, respectively. Analysis of cows without subclinical mastitis (<200,000 somatic cells ml -1 ) revealed that the relationship of parity with lactose level was independent of the effect of somatic cells. Lactose contents less than 4.4 % were observed in autumn. Overall, the present study suggests that the lactose content of milk is influenced by somatic cell count and parity and that it varies seasonally; however, it is not related to breed, milk yield, milk fat content, or milk protein level.

The objective of the present study was to perform a meta-analysis that compared the chemical composition of corn silage produced for different experimental purposes, i.e., by research groups that studied corn silage (SCS) or by research groups that only used corn silage (UCS) as a form of roughage. We analyzed 203 papers that were published between January 1994 and December 2014 and contained a total of 647 treatments and the analysis of 1701 silos. We found a significant difference (P < 0.0001) in the dry matter (DM) content of SCS silage (33.00%) and that of UCS silage (30.64%). The DM contents of neutral detergent fiber for the SCS and UCS silage were high (54.72 and 55.14% DM, respectively) but were not significantly different from one another (P = 0.5936), and the acid detergent fiber content of the UCS silage (31.04% DM) was higher than that of the SCS silage (29.65%, P = 0.0214), which indicated that the UCS silage was less digestible than the SCS silage. This was also corroborated (P = 0.0064) by the mean content of total digestible nutrients (64.18% DM) in the UCS silage, which likely results from the lower level of care taken when using standard silage production methods, compared to that taken by SCS researchers. Therefore, we concluded that the corn silage produced by research groups in Brazil are not analyzed in full and that, as a result, there is a paucity of important information, such as the content of organic acids. ResumoObjetivou-se analisar metanaliticamente a composição bromatológica de silagens de milho, estudadas ou utilizadas em dietas para ruminantes, em condições experimentais brasileiras. Foram utilizados artigos publicados entre janeiro de 1994 e dezembro de 2014, totalizando 203 artigos científicos com 647 tratamentos, envolvendo a análise de 1.701 silos. Observou-se diferença (P < 0,0001) no teor de matéria seca (MS) encontrado nas silagens entre pesquisas que estudam especificamente silagem de milho (ESM, de 33,00% de MS), para as que utilizam silagem de milho como suporte em outras avaliações científicas USM, 30,64% de MS). Os teores de fibra em detergente neutro são elevados para ESM (54,72% da MS) e para USM (55,14% da MS), não havendo diferença (P=0,5936). As USM apresentam valores maiores (P = 0,0214) de fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) (31,04% da MS), ou seja, fornecem volumoso de menor digestibilidade que as ESM. Este fato é também corroborado (P = 0,0064) pelo nível médio de nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT) (64,18% da MS) nos estudos USM, pois geralmente não há o mesmo cuidado com as premissas básicas de produção de silagem, comparado com o grupo ESM cujas silagens apresentaram em média 29,65% de FDA e 66,79% de NDT. This meta-analysis evaluates the effects of yeast supplementation (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on dry matter intake (DMI) and average daily gain (ADG) in beef cattle. The inclusion criteria were complete and randomized trials and supplementation with yeast S. cerevisiae versus no supplementation to measure DMI or ADG. Data were extracted from relevant papers via pre-defined protocols. A meta-analysis of random effects was conducted for each indicator separately including the mean of the control and treated groups. The results were presented with the pooled mean difference (MD), 95% of confidence interval, and I² (percentage of total variation between studies that is due to heterogeneity rather than chance). A total of 12 publications reporting 22 trials conducted in 1,161 cattle were analysed. The heterogeneity between studies was high and ranged from 92 to 99%. No effects were observed in ADG with the inclusion of yeast in the diet (MD = -2.849 g/day, p = 0.492). However, there was a reduction in the DMI (MD = -0.885 kg/day; p = 0.023) despite the high heterogeneity among studies (I 2 = 92.4%; p < 0.001). The ADG increased when the forage level in the diet was between 30 and 50% (MD = 641.08 g/day; p = 0.001) and decreased when the level range from 51 to 75% (MD = -2.90 g/day; p < 0.001). In over 60% of the Neutral Detergent Fibre, the use of yeast in the diet decreased the ADG by 406.94 g/day (p = 0.034). Feedlot animals showed a reduction in the DMI (MD = -0.97 kg/day; p = 0.019) if supplemented with yeast. Supplementation with S. cerevisiae in the diet of beef cattle had no effect on ADG; however, it does improve the feed conversion due to the reduction in DMI.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to assess the edible biomass and chemical composition of forages grown on pure form, as a grass mix, and in grass-legume consortia. The following species were tested: white oats (Avena sativa), black oats (Avena strigosa), ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), forage peanut (Arachis pintoi), white clover (Trifolium repens), and red clover (Trifolium pratense). The experiment consisted of sixteen treatments arranged in a completely randomized design. The parameters measured were total dry matter (PMST), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and crude protein (CP). No significant differences in PMST were found among the consortia (p > 0.05). Only the pure cultivated white clover (p > 0.05) was comparable to the consortia in terms of biomass production. The three legumes had the lowest average NDF values (p > 0.05), based on their contributions to the total NDF content of the consortia along the cuts. The ADF content increased for all treatments during the cuts. The results indicate that in pasture, legumes increase protein content, and forage consortia increase both the pasture production and the grazing period. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção de biomassa e a composição bromatológica ao longo do ciclo produtivo de forrageiras cultivadas de forma estreme, misturadas ou consorciadas. Foram utilizadas as seguintes espécies: aveia branca (Avena sativa), aveia preta (Avena strigosa), azevém (Lolium multiflorum), amendoim forrageiro (Arachis pintoi), trevo branco (Trifolium repens) e trevo vermelho (Trifolium pratense). As forrageiras foram cultivadas em 16 tratamentos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, sendo analisados a produção de matéria seca total (PMST) e os teores de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) e proteína bruta (PB). Quanto à PMST, não foram constatadas diferenças (p > 0,05) entre os consórcios, sendo apenas o cultivo estreme de trevo branco comparável (p < 0,05) aos consórcios em biomassa produzida. Em relação ao FDN, as três leguminosas isoladas apresentaram os menores valores (p > 0,05) na média geral, ficando evidente a sua contribuição no teor de FDN dos consórcios ao longo dos cortes. O teor de FDA aumentou no decorrer dos cortes para todos os tratamentos. Os resultados indicam que a inclusão de leguminosas aumenta os teores proteicos, e os consórcios de forrageiras aumentam a produção de pastagem e o período de pastejo, com composição bromatológica adequada para potencializar a produção animal a pasto.
