Purpose The market for goods and services is a continually changing environment influenced by many internal and external factors. The majority of economies in the World were deeply hit by the coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) in the first half of 2020. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the role of a crisis, COVID-19 in this case, in moderating the market environment and its ability to accelerate or slow down ongoing processes. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire survey was used to obtain the opinions of 100 customers and 100 local retailers on the digitisation of the shopping process in a medium-sized Czech town. After the first wave of crisis faded away, the respondents reflected on their opinions before, during and after the crisis. The data were processed using linear mixed models respecting repeated measures. Findings The crisis seems to have shifted the interest of both groups towards e-commerce but it did not change the disproportion in opinions between them. The interest of customers was significantly higher, even after the crisis. Research limitations/implications The credibility of the results is limited mainly by the one-time gathering of the data after the crisis. However, the results indicate a persistent challenge to which small retailers are exposed. Originality/value The originality of the results comes from the specific situation brought about by the COVID-19 crisis and the structure of respondents, enabling us to catch an immediate shift of opinions caused by the crisis and to compare the changes in both groups of respondents.
Innovations are a key component of the forest bioeconomy. Many types of innovations are needed for an efficient forest bioeconomy to be deployed. This article aimed to analyze the scientific literature on the topic of innovations in the forest bioeconomy, to understand where we are and where we are likely to be in the future, considering technologies, business models, etc. First, the scientific literature, in the form of peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Web of Science, was compiled in a comprehensive dataset, on which we analyzed the most important authors, their affiliations, regions they come from, journals where papers were most commonly published, and under which categories the papers were indexed. The total number of papers matching the keywords was 161. We found that the number of papers published on the topic is increasing and that, on average, each paper was cited 18 times. A total of 504 authors dealt with the topic, presenting a rather small community. This finding was reinforced by the outcomes of the analysis of regions where the authors of the papers were affiliated—Europe being the region to which most papers were affiliated. We conducted a qualitative synthesis of the literature on forest bioeconomy innovations. We found that authors dealt with the necessary adaptation of policies, while innovations were mainly focused on biorefining, biotechnology, production of various biomaterials, as well as innovations of business models and stakeholder interactions.
This article investigates the applicability of blue ocean strategy in regard to low-cost airlines in the civil airline industry. To do so, the commercial offers of selected airlines were compared to validate any attempts to apply the blue ocean strategy concept. This is followed by examining the time limitation of the concept in a competitive environment and is illustrated by the changes in the industry for the past 30 years and a comparison of offers from similar companies. The third issue is the evaluation of the further contribution of blue ocean strategy when it is recognized as time-limited. The importance of first-mover advantage, which could be based on the ability to capture an economy of scale and advantageously shape the market, is also discussed.

The need for this research stems from the dynamic development that the brewing industry has undergone since the Velvet Revolution when the market was split between seventy-one regional breweries. In the 1990s, customers began to prefer the larger nationwide breweries, a trend that led to the bankruptcy of some regional breweries thereby creating a market niche that was quickly filled by microbreweries. By 2015, there were 44 industrial breweries and around 300 microbreweries. By then, the beer market had diversified, and since the brewing industry had been highly dynamic, managers had to change strategy regarding customer requirements. Strategic change has since been reflected in the pricing and quality of the beer, marketing communication, and merchandising. Knowledge of developments in the industry and adapting strategies to meet these changes have been key factors in determining future survival. The purpose of this study is to describe the development of the brewing industry and the resulting strategic changes of different breweries. Historical knowledge is required for future research into the perception of the brewery managers' strategic thinking. This paper is the first step in longitudinal research focused on strategy formulation at the business level in the brewing industry and brewery performance. The study is based on qualitative approaches and a two-step research design: the first phase is historical research, where the data was obtained from contemporary newspapers, professional and scientific journals, and annual reports from breweries. The second phase is composed of interviews conducted at four breweries, which are representative of the population. The results of this study help to clarify industry behaviour and are intended as a source of knowledge that practitioners can use in their strategic decision-making process. The study reflects previous industry behaviour and describes current trends in customer requirements that can be used when forming a business level strategy and identifying an appropriate generic strategy.
Background Molecular aberrations occurring in primary ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) can be of diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic significance. However, a complex molecular study including genomic and transcriptomic analysis of large number of OCCC has been lacking. Methods 113 pathologically confirmed primary OCCCs were analyzed using capture DNA NGS (100 cases; 727 solid cancer related genes) and RNA-Seq (105 cases; 147 genes) in order to describe spectra and frequency of genomic and transcriptomic alterations, as well as their prognostic and predictive significance. Results The most frequent mutations were detected in genes ARID1A, PIK3CA, TERTp, KRAS, TP53, ATM, PPP2R1A, NF1, PTEN, and POLE (51,47,27,18,13,10,7,6,6, and 4%, respectively). TMB-High cases were detected in 9% of cases. Cases with POLEmut and/or MSI-High had better relapse-free survival. RNA-Seq revealed gene fusions in 14/105 (13%) cases, and heterogeneous expression pattern. The majority of gene fusions affected tyrosine kinase receptors (6/14; four of those were MET fusions) or DNA repair genes (2/14). Based on the mRNA expression pattern, a cluster of 12 OCCCs characterized by overexpression of tyrosine kinase receptors (TKRs) AKT3, CTNNB1, DDR2, JAK2, KIT, or PDGFRA (p < 0.00001) was identified. Conclusions The current work has elucidated the complex genomic and transcriptomic molecular hallmarks of primary OCCCs. Our results confirmed the favorable outcomes of POLEmut and MSI-High OCCC. Moreover, the molecular landscape of OCCC revealed several potential therapeutical targets. Molecular testing can provide the potential for targeted therapy in patients with recurrent or metastatic tumors.
