Abstract:The female inflorescences of hops (Humulus lupulus L.), a well-known bittering agent used in the brewing industry, have long been used in traditional medicines. Xanthohumol (XN) is one of the bioactive substances contributing to its medical applications. Among foodstuffs XN is found primarily in beer and its natural occurrence is surveyed. In recent years, XN has received much attention for its biological effects. The present review describes the pharmacological aspects of XN and summarizes the most interesting findings obtained in the preclinical research related to this compound, including the pharmacological activity, the pharmacokinetics, and the safety of XN. Furthermore, the potential use of XN as a food additive considering its many positive biological effects is discussed.
Ever-growing globalization and industrialization put forward impending requirements for green and sustainable logistics (G&SL). Over the past decades, G&SL initiatives triggered worldwide deliberations, aiming at easing negative transport externalities and improving supply chain performance. This review-based paper attempts to offer a joint quantitative and qualitative understanding for the overall evolutionary trend, knowledge structure, and literature gaps of the G&SL research field. Employing the science mapping approach, a total of 306 major paper published from 1999 to 2019 were retrieved, elaborated on, and synthesized. Visualized statistics regarding publication years, journal allocation/co-citation, inter-country/institution collaboration, influential articles, co-occurred keywords, and time view clusters of research themes were analyzed bibliographically. On this basis, a total of 50 sub-branches of G&SL knowledge were classified and thematically discussed based on five alignments, namely (i) social-environmental-economic research, (ii) planning, policy and management, (iii) application and practice, (iv) technology, and (v) operations research. Finally, the current knowledge obstacles and the future research opportunities were suggested. The findings contribute to portray a systematic intellectual prospect for the state quo, hotspots, and academic frontiers of G&SL research. Moreover, it provides researchers and practitioners with heuristic thoughts to govern transportation ecology and logistics service quality.
The objective of this study is to summarize the clinical and pathologic characteristics of malignant struma ovarii to facilitate the early diagnosis and treatment of this disease. All 144 patients were females from 27 countries. The mean age of the patients at diagnosis was 42.6 years. Overall, 35.71% of the patients underwent unilateral oophorectomy, 58.57% of the patients underwent bilateral oophorectomy, 5.72% of the patients were not ovariectomized, and 38.57% of the patients received radioactive iodine treatment with an average dose of 158.22 mCI each time. “Impure” types accounted for 70.19% of the cases, while pure types accounted for 29.81% of the cases. Among these cases, papillary thyroid carcinoma accounted for 50.00%, follicular thyroid carcinoma accounted for 26.47%, follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma accounted for 18.63%, papillary and follicular mixed thyroid carcinoma accounted for 2.94%, anaplastic carcinoma accounted for 0.98%, and medullary carcinoma accounted for 0.98%. In total, 21 patients (51.22%) had elevated CA125. More than half of the patients (51.94%) had metastasis outside the ovary. The most common metastatic site was the pelvic cavity. The misdiagnosis rate was 17.27%. Mortality was related to metastasis and the cancer type. Gene mutations were found in the NRAS, KRAS, BRAF, and KIT genes and were similar to those in thyroid carcinoma, but some patients (37.5%) did not exhibit any gene mutations. Regardless of the treatment received, the survival rate is high. Treatment could initially include ovariectomy; however, in cases with metastasis and iodine uptake of the metastatic tumor, thyroidectomy, radioactive iodine therapy, and thyroid hormone inhibiting therapy are indicated.
Xanthohumol (XN) is a unique prenylated flavonoid in hops (Humulus lupulus L.) and beer. XN alleviates hyperglycemia and has potential usage in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. In the present study, a series of in vitro experiments were performed to investigate whether XN was an effective inhibitor of α-glucosidase. The results showed that XN inhibited α-glucosidase in a reversible and noncompetitive manner, with an IC50 value of 8.8 μM and that XN inhibited the release of glucose from the maltose in the apical side of the Caco-2 cell monolayer. Fluorescence and circular dichroism spectra results indicated that XN directly bound to α-glucosidase and induced minor conformational changes of the enzyme. These results demonstrated that XN is a promising α-glucosidase inhibitor, which therefore could be used as functional food to alleviate postprandial hyperglycemia and as a potential candidate for the development of an antidiabetic agent.
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value between contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in breast disease.MethodsTwo hundred thirty-five patients who were suspected of having breast abnormalities by clinical examination or mammography underwent CESM and MRI examination. Using histopathologic results as the criterion standard, the diagnostic performance of CESM and MRI was investigated. The areas under receiver operating characteristic curves were applied to analyze diagnostic efficiency. The Pearson correlation coefficients between CESM versus pathology and MRI versus pathology were calculated.ResultsTwo hundred sixty-three breast lesions were found in 235 patients, in which 177 were malignant and 86 were benign. By evaluating the diagnostic value, sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and false-negative rate from CESM examination were comparable to those from MRI (91.5%, 94.7%, 83.7%, and 8.5% vs 91.5%, 90.5%, 82.1%, and 8.5%). Importantly, the accuracy and the specificity were higher for CESM than those for MRI (81% and 89.5% vs 80.2% and 71.7%), whereas the false-positive rate was lower (10.5% vs 19.8%). The areas under receiver operating characteristic curves of CESM and MRI were 0.950 and 0.939, displaying the equivalent diagnostic efficiency (P = 0.48).For the agreement between measurements, mean tumor sizes were 3.1 cm for CESM and 3.4 cm for MRI compared with 3.2 cm on histopathologic results. The Pearson correlation coefficient of CESM versus histopathology (r = 0.774, P = 0.000) was consistent with MRI versus histopathology (r = 0.771, P = 0.000).ConclusionsOur results show better accuracy, specificity, and false-positive rate of CESM in breast cancer detection than MRI. Contrast-enhanced spectral mammography displayed a good correlation with histopathology in assessing the lesion size of breast cancer, which is consistent with MRI.
Prefabricated construction (PC), with the characteristics of green, environmentally friendly, energy saving and high production efficiency, is attracting more and more attention from all over the world. Supply chain management is closely related to the application efficiency of PC, but only in the last three years has this interdisciplinary research received due attention. The prefabricated construction supply chain management (PCSCM) have not received enough attention. Especially recently, the related literature shows explosive growth. This paper adopted the method of systematic literature review through the tool of bibliometric statistics. And we reviewed 152 articles from 2001 to 2018, with the goal of understanding the current situation, trends, and gaps in PCSCM research, and a framework is proposed to promote its development. First, the study discussed the four themes of clustering, concentrating mainly on strategic research and project evaluation, PC supply chain process design and optimization, supply chain integration and management, and the application of advanced technology. Then, the research gaps and conceptual development framework to promote PCSCM were reported. Only through the coordinated development of technology, market circumstances, and decision-making level of participants, can the PCSC form an integrated whole, so as to optimize the efficiency and sustainability of prefabricated construction industry and improve its level.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
