The aim of this work was to report the occurrence of dicephalus iniodymus monauchenos in a Nellore newborn. A three-days old calf, from in vitro production, with duplication of the head and a history of cesarean birth was attended. On physical examination, the dicephalus, iniodymus and monauchenos, which were almost the same size and shape, had four eyes and four ears. Computed tomography showed the presence of two skulls fused with a common occipital foramen, two nasopharynxes, oropharynxes with the presence of a cleft lip and a cleft palate in the right head, which continued in a single esophagus and a single trachea. At necropsy, the presence of duplication of the cerebrum and cerebellum was observed, with union of the parts in the region of the trapezoid body of the brainstem and continued as a single spinal cord. This study characterizes the clinical, tomographic, and necropsy findings of a dicephalus Nelore neonate.
A mandíbula é o osso da cabeça mais comumente fraturado nos equinos, sendo normalmente relacionada ao histórico de trauma. O objetivo deste relato é descrever um caso de fratura exposta de mandíbula em um equino com exsudação serossanguinolenta advinda de fístula localizada na região ventral do ramo horizontal da mandíbula esquerda. O diagnóstico foi realizado com base no histórico, sinais clínicos e avaliação radiográfica. Foi realizada osteossíntese com duas placas bloqueadas, ventral e lateral à mandíbula esquerda, associadas a antibioticoterapia de liberação lenta por meio de implante de cimento ósseo embebido em gentamicina para a estabilização do foco da fratura e controle da infecção no local respectivamente. Após quatro meses do procedimento cirúrgico foi observada consolidação da fratura óssea, sendo realizada a remoção das placas e do cimento ósseo implantados. O paciente recebeu alta médica com completo retorno de suas atividades e sem recidiva do processo infeccioso local.
Cutaneous pythiosis is an important disease affecting horses raised in regions with a hot climate and water stagnation, occurring throughout all regions of Brazil. The disease progresses rapidly, and treatment for chronic lesions is challenging. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of fluconazole after surgical excision and electrocauterization of cutaneous lesions in horses naturally infected with Pythium insidiosum. We treated 10 horses with cutaneous pythiosis, whose diagnoses were confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. After surgical debridement of lesion, animals received fluconazole orally for 21 days, in combination with topical treatment for the wounds. After 7 days of therapy, there was decreased serosanguineous secretion and no kunkers in the wounds in all horses. All lesions healed completely after therapy, and there were no recurrences 10 months after discharge. When associated with surgical excision, oral fluconazole therapy was an effective treatment in clinical cases of equine cutaneous pythiosis.
The pesticide aldicarb is the most toxic active ingredient registered in all national territory, standing out for its extreme acute toxicity. In the environment, mainly in the water resources, several studies have demonstrated the potential of contamination of aldicarbe. The Paranaíba River cuts off the municipality of Itumbiara-GO, a region considered an important economic center in the south of the state. Along the Paranaíba River Basin there is a wide range of crops, such as sugarcane, corn, soy, cotton. This work aimed to quantitatively analyze the occurrence of aldicarb contamination in surface waters of the Paranaíba River, in addition to conducting a theoretical study of the river. For this purpose, the liquidliquid extraction with low temperature partitioning (LLE-LTP) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-UV) analysis were used. In the surface water samples of the river analyzed, no aldicarb contamination levels were found or the concentrations were below the detection limit of the LLE-LTP and HPLC-UV method.
