The activities of helping professionals and volunteers are reflected in the quality of life of all members of society and, consequently, also create a precondition for ensuring stable economic growth. Within the methodology of elaboration, the aim of the article is to characterize a different concept of human work of helping professionals and volunteers by an interdisciplinary approach (especially institutional economics and ethics). Adam Smith's concept of the moral philosopher and spiritual father of economics about productive and unproductive work is considered the starting point. The importance of helping professionals and volunteers is emphasized in the crisis situations of 2020 -2022 (pandemic covid-19, war in Ukraine).
V rozvinutých tržních ekonomikách akceleruje význam terciární a kvartérní sféry oproti primární a sekundární. To vyplývá z mnoha podob a disciplín ekonomické teorie, přičemž každá má vymezený předmět svého zkoumání, a tím i svůj obsah.
The implementation of the circular economy, as an integral support for sustainable development, is the result of established economic policy in the macroeconomic and microeconomic dimensions. In its essence, the creation of the mentioned policy represents a mix of interlinked goals of economic, social, ecological, global, regional, etc.. For this reason, the basic initial determinants of the conceptual economic-political strategy lie mainly in the sociological and political aspects of the formation of society in developed market economies since the second half of the 20th century until the onset of Industry 4.0. From a sociological point of view, from the mentioned period, this society took on a whole range of attributes, such as consumer, informational, risky, etc. From a political point of view, the concepts of economic policy within the framework of the implementation of the circular economy represent the reduction of undesirable phenomena accompanying this social development. For the reasons cited above, the article is prepared with an interdisciplinary approach of economics, economic policy theory, sociology and political science.
In developed market economies, the importance of the tertiary and quaternary spheres accelerates over the primary and secondary spheres. This is clearly proven by the data of macroeconomic indicators such as the largest share in the area of services concerning the gross domestic product and in the area of employment in the economy. An integral part of the service sector is also helping professions intended for the interest groups of the population. According to the original theoretical concepts of Adam Smith and Karl Marx, the classics of economic theory, these professions are not the creators of the wealth of society. Their 'unproductive work' is therefore considered inferior. But the reality is quite diff erent. In particular, the theory of system dynamics and synergetic eff ect will confi rm how these professions contribute to the growth of the quality of life of all society members. The quality of life, as a component of human capital, is one of the sources of stable economic growth.
The article, prepared by an interdisciplinary approach to economics and ethics, presents reflections on the possibilities of evaluating human life from the perspective of the public sector. When applying various processing methods (especially analysis and comparison), it will always be clear that the calculated value of life is and will always be only indicative. Nevertheless, it is important to address the value of life, as it can serve as an important support tool in various decisions within the public sector, where final decisions will always be in the interest of political will.
