A B S T R A C TOne of the parameters involved in the design of pressurized hydraulic systems is the pressure drop in the pipes. The verification of the pressure drop can be performed through the Darcy-Weisbach formulation, which considers a coefficient of head loss (f) that can be estimated by the implicit Colebrook-White equation. However, for this determination, it is necessary to use numerical methods or the Moody diagram. Because of this, numerous explicit approaches have been proposed to overcome such limitation. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the explicit approximations of the f for pressurized conduits in comparison to the Colebrook-White formulation, determining the most precise ones so that they can be used as an alternative solution that is valid for the turbulent flow regime. Twenty nine explicit equations found in the literature were analysed, determining the f through the Reynolds number in the range of 4 × 10 3 ≤ Re ≤ 10 8 and a relative roughness (Ɛ/D) of 10 -6 ≤ Ɛ/D ≤ 5 × 10 -2 , and obtaining 160 points for each equation. The performance index and relative error of the formulations were analyzed in relation to the Colebrook-White equation. Considering the equations analyzed, we found seven that presented excellent performance and high precision, highlighting the formulation of Offor & Alabi, which can be used as an alternative to the Colebrook-White standard equation.

R.PERFORMANCE OF ULTRASONIC FLOW METER IN DIFFERENT VINYL POLYCHLORIDE PIPES 2 ABSTRACT The projects related to the use or management of water have as starting point the measurement of flow through meters specific for their measurement. An example of this is the ultrasonic flowmeters, which use the ultrasound method and having as main characteristics high precision and mobility, being easy to use in urban, industrial and rural environments. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the performance of an ultrasonic flow meter compared to the standard hydrometer method in different PVC pipes. The experiment was carried out in a closed water pumping system at the Agricultural Hydraulics Laboratory of the Federal University of Santa Maria, RS. PVC tubes of different colors and uses were used, all with a nominal diameter of 50 mm and different wall thicknesses. The Performance Index and performance classes were assigned to compare the flow values obtained by the two methods (ultrasonic and hydrometer). For the white and brown PVC tubes, the performance class was rated "Excellent", while for the blue PVC pipe it was "Good". Keywords: penstocks, hydrometric, ultrasound method.
The choice of a maize hybrid, considering the technology level and irrigation management, contributes to the improvement of the plant productivity and water use efficiency (WUE). Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation depths on production components, grain yield, technical efficiency, and WUE in maize hybrids. The experiment was conducted in Santiago, RS state, Brazil, in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 crop seasons, using a randomized block design in factorial scheme, consisting of five irrigation depths (0, 50, 75, 100 and 125% of crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and four maize hybrids in crop season I (2015/2016), and six maize hybrids in crop season II (2016/2017). The number of ears per plant, number of grains per ear, 100-grain weight, grain yield, and WUE were evaluated. The irrigation depths affected the 100-grain weight, grain yield and WUE in both crop seasons, and the number of grains per ear in crop season I. The irrigation depths increased the productive performance of the maize hybrids from 9.9 to 41% when using irrigation depths of maximum technical efficiency, which varied from 90.1 to 105.4% ETc. The AG9025, P1630 and DKB290 maize hybrids presented the best agronomic performances, with grain yields from 13,609.1 to 16,281.3 kg ha-1.
The determination of leaf area index is a variable of great importance for predicting productivity, especially when it comes to forage species where the desired product is the leaves. This study aimed to determine the variation of the leaf area index of forage sorghum when subjected to different irrigation depths in four culture cuts. Treatments consisted of six irrigation depths, these being 0, 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140% of the reference evapotranspiration. Seven evaluations of leaf area index (LAI) were performed, which were in the four cuts, specifically at 50, 80, 110 and 140 days after sowing (DAS), and also 15 days after each cut to evaluate the culture's resprouting, that is, at 65, 95 and 125 DAS. The delineation was randomized blocks, with six treatments and four blocks, totaling 24 experimental units. The experiment was conducted in Santiago-RS. Sowing was done on November 18, 2014. Using an irrigation system sprinkler, with one main row and six lateral rows, of PVC, being the irrigation levels differentiated by the nozzle diameter difference of sprinkler each lateral row. Samples of 0.5 linear meters per plot were collected in each of the seven evaluations, totaling 24 samples for evaluation. The analysis of leaf area index was performed using the computer program ImageJ. Significant results were found for the influence of the different irrigation levels on the leaf area index in the four cuts (recommended periods for grazing) evaluated, as well as for resprouting evaluations in the intermediate periods between cuts. Quadratic equations were adjusted for all the evaluation dates, where the 100 and 120% reference evapotranspiration levels alternated the largest LAI for all evaluations. The results also characterize that the second cut, or second grazing period of the irrigated forage sorghum, was the most productive, being it possible to recommend an increase in the animal load, or increase in grazing period in the area in this period. In this way, irrigation by sprinkling in the sorghum culture was characterized as an alternative for producers to increase leaf area index, and, consequently, crop productivity.

D. ABSTRACTBeef cattle kept in pasture of forage sorghum is characterized as one of the main means of bovine production in Rio Grande do Sul. However, rains are irregulat and producers use irrigation as alternative to the problem. However, there is a need to determine production costs and financial viability of the activity. The objective of this work was to evaluate the financial feasibility of irrigation in forage sorghum for beef cattle for different expectations of average daily weight gain of the animals. Two experiments were conducted in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 in Santa Maria / RS, and the yields of six conventional irrigation depths (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125% of the ETo) were evaluated, in four replications, and randomized block design. With the productivities, production functions were generated and the possible animal load to be fed for each treatment was determined. Three scenarios were simulated of daily weight gain per animal (0.5, 1 and 1.5 kg-1animal-1day-1), and the production costs for each established water condition, in addition to the financial return for each scenario tested. Financial feasibility has been verified for most of the simulated situations evaluated and costs depend on the precipitation regime.
