Dílo Klementa Alexandrijského je v dnešní době známé především prostřednictvím trojice jeho spisů Pobídka Řekům (Protrepticus), Vychovatel (Paedagogus) a Stromata. Sledujeme-li Klementa jako na reprezentanta alexandrijské tradice proslavené alegorickým výkladem Bible, neměli bychom opomenout ani homilii Který boháč bude spasen? (Quis dives salvetur?), komentující evangelní perikopu o povolání bohatého mladíka. Starověcí autoři ovšem dosvědčují, že vedle těchto textů Klement napsal také rozsáhlé dílo s názvem Hypotyposes, které mělo být jakýmsi stručným komentářem Písma. * Studie byla připravena za podpory projektu GA ČR P401/12/G168 "Historie a interpretace Bible". Středověká sbírka legend, tradičně označovaná jako Legenda aurea, obsahuje bezmála dvě stovky příběhů, jejichž protagonisty nejsou jen středověcí světci (jak bychom u legendy čekali), ale rovněž postavy vystupující v různých knihách Nového zákona, obzvláště apoštolové. Jedním z nich je apoštol a evangelista Jan. Vyprávění o jeho životě a působení sestává z řady volně propojených epizod, jedna z nich má původ ve starověkém kázání Quis dives salvetur? (QDS) připisovaném Klementu z Alexandrie. Skutečnost, že historka o apoštolu Janovi, původně součást Klementova kázání na text Mk 10,17-31, byla v následujících staletích natolik oblíbená, že se dostala až do nejznámější středověké sbírky legend, je poměrně známá. 1 Nabízí se však otázka, zda ve vyprávění o sv. Janovi, jak ho nacházíme ve Zlaté legendě, nelze nalézt i další stopy tohoto patristického autora. Cílem tohoto článku je tedy (1) porovnat obě verze vyprávění a upozornit na shody a rozdíly mezi nimi, (2) pokusit se identifikovat možné prostředkující texty mezi QDS a Zlatou legendou, (3) zjistit, zda nebyly Klementovým kázáním inspirovány i zbylé části legendy o sv. Janovi, a pokud ano, (4) položit si otázku, proč se autor Legendy nechal inspirovat právě Klementovým kázáním alias proč se spis QDS těšil v pozdním starověku a středověku větší popularitě než jiné dnes známější Klementovy spisy. Dříve než přistoupíme k porovnání obou verzí příběhu, uvedeme základní údaje o textech, kterými se budeme zabývat, včetně jejich rukopisného dochování. * Článek byl připraven v rámci projektu GAČR 18-09922S "Biblical Exegesis of the Other Clement of Alexandria".
Apoštolští otcové a JustinPrvním křesťanským autorem, který na konci prvního století cituje žalm 18 LXX, je Klement Římský. Ve svém listě adresovaném korintskému církevnímu společenství, zkoušenému jednak pronásledováním, jednak vnitrocírkevními spory, cituje pro utvrzení víry vedle Nového zákona (v prvé řadě Pavlových listů) především Pentateuch, ale také četné pasáže ze Žalmů. Starý Zákon je pro Klementa Písmo (γραφή), v němž hledá a nalézá slova povzbuzení a útěchy. Slova našeho žalmu (konkrétně verše 2-4) jsou pro něj spolu s Mdr 12,12 a 11,22 a Žl 139,7-10 svědectvím o Boží velikosti a všemohoucnosti, která garantuje v posledku i lidské vzkříšení.1 Zajímavé přitom je, že na rozdíl od Žl 139, u něhož nepřebírá septuagintní znění, nýbrž volí překlad bližší hebrejskému textu, v případě Žl 18 LXX cituje Klement Septuagintu doslovně.
2Další použití Žl 18 LXX u apoštolských otců je sporné. Někteří vydavatelé vidí inspiraci šestým veršem ve čtvrtém vidění Hermova Pastýře, kde se zjevuje církev coby panna v bílém rouchu "ozdobená jakoby vyšla od ženicha", 3 je však také možné, že formulace je inspirována Janovou Apokalypsou. Nejistá je rovněž narážka hovořící o "velkých a krásných příkazech, jež mohou potěšit srdce člověka".
