Findings contribute to the growing body of research into the use of Aricept in treating memory deficits in TBI survivors and support the need for further research.
West Virginia (WV) is situated at the epicenter of the opioid epidemic with the highest rates of overdose deaths and some of the lowest rates of access to life saving evidence-based medication assisted treatment (MAT) for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). WV used a modified hub-and-spoke model to build organizational capacity for facilities to use buprenorphine to treat patients with OUD and to provide ongoing case consultation. The purpose of this study is to 1) describe the groupbase model of buprenorphine treatment and the model used to build organizational capacity, 2) to describe the preliminary results of buprenorphine expansion in WV and 3) to report preliminary data describing and comparing the characteristics of the patients served across five hubs. A single Coordinating Center uses video conferencing to train hubs and provide ongoing case consultation, as well as clinical support. Hubs were trained to deliver a buprenorphine treatment model that is multidisciplinary and includes group-based medication management and psychosocial therapy. Five regional hubs independently treat patients and are leading MAT expansion in their local areas by training and mentoring spokes (n = 13). As a result of the WV STR funding, 14 health care facilities have started to use buprenorphine, 56 health professionals were trained and 196 patients with OUD have been treated. There were few sociodemographic characteristic differences across patients treated at the five hubs, while there were differences in self-reported alcohol and drug use in the 30 days prior to intake. Additional research is needed to determine whether the WV modified hub-and-spoke model resulted in statistically significant improvements in buprenorphine treatment capacity; there is a need to address MAT stigma and regulatory barriers in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the buprenorphine expansion.
Background: Suicides by any method, plus 'nonsuicide' fatalities from drug self-intoxication (estimated from selected forensically undetermined and 'accidental' deaths), together represent self-injury mortality (SIM)fatalities due to mental disorders or distress. SIM is especially important to examine given frequent undercounting of suicides amongst drug overdose deaths. We report suicide and SIM trends in the United States of America (US) during 1999À2018, portray interstate rate trends, and examine spatiotemporal (spacetime) diffusion or spread of the drug self-intoxication component of SIM, with attention to potential for differential suicide misclassification. Methods: For this state-based, cross-sectional, panel time series, we used de-identified manner and underlying cause-of-death data for the 50 states and District of Columbia (DC) from CDC's Wide-ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research. Procedures comprised joinpoint regression to describe national trends; Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient to assess interstate SIM and suicide rate congruence; and spacetime hierarchical modelling of the 'nonsuicide' SIM component. Findings: The national annual average percentage change over the observation period in the SIM rate was 4.3% (95% CI: 3.3%, 5.4%; p<0.001) versus 1.8% (95% CI: 1.6%, 2.0%; p<0.001) for the suicide rate.
Highlights the importance of dentist-technician communication.Concludes that dentists must ensure that written prescriptions contain all the necessary information so that the dental technician can fabricate fixed prostheses correctly and without delay.Recommendations for improved communication are made with the ultimate goal of better patient service.
Evidence for an association between cannabis and psychosis has been documented in literature in many forms including experimental studies, epidemiological data, and case series. The association has implications for psychotic outcomes ranging from mild to severe and occurring over minutes to years. Due to the huge variety of exposures and outcome measures reported, creating a coherent account of all the available information is difficult. A useful way to conceptualize these wide-ranging results is to consider the association between cannabis and psychosis as it occurs within the context of widely used DSM-5 diagnoses. In the present review we examine cannabis/psychosis associations as they pertain to Cannabis Intoxication, Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder, and Schizophrenia. This allows for an understanding of the cannabis and psychosis association along something approaching a continuum. Cannabis intoxication becomes Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder once certain severity and duration criteria are met and Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder is heavily associated with future schizophrenia diagnoses.
Whilst much of the literature concerning counter terrorism focuses upon policies and strategies aimed at removing either the terrorist environment and/ or the groups or individuals willing to utilize political violence to achieve their goal(s), there is a much smaller body of work concerned with anti-terrorism, namely those defensive measures, which are designed to prevent or deter terrorist attacks. Increasingly, crowded places have become popular targets for terrorists and the research presented in this paper connects the planning, design and development of real estate with respect to the adoption of protective counter terrorism measures. It seeks to develop new understandings of the considerations that real estate developments have towards terrorism, as well as the barriers that may inhibit counter terrorism protective security measures in future development projects. The analysis is based on qualitative research, namely semi-structured interviews conducted in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia with professionals involved in all core strands of the real estate development process. The findings suggest that considerations towards terrorism vary considerably as a consequence of a range of factors and that while expected factors such as cost and aesthetics are important determinants for decision making, a range of other barriers exist.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
