Atualmente, o uso indiscriminado de antimicrobianos tem contribuído para o aparecimento de microrganismos resistentes, pois, os mesmos ao entrarem em contato com o princípio ativo dessas drogas de forma indevida, desenvolvem características fisiológicas e genéticas tais como a mutação de seu DNA, podendo passar esses genes de resistência à sua descendência por meio de replicação ou por conjugação de plasmídeos, fazendo com que se reduzam as opções de tratamentos efetivos para as infecções bacterianas, aumentando assim as complicações clínicas de pacientes, sejam eles o homem ou os animais de companhia e/ou produção. Recentemente o nosso grupo de pesquisa realizou um estudo com proprietários de cães do curso de Medicina Veterinária e resultados prévios demonstraram alto perfil de resistência aos antimicrobianos da classe das penicilinas, sendo a amoxicilina o antimicrobiano que apresentou menor eficácia, dentre os antimicrobianos testados para aquela classe. Um dos principais fatores relacionados ao aparecimento de resistência está relacionado ao seu uso excessivo e segundo avaliação prévia dos questionários dos tutores verificou-se um predomínio do uso desse antimicrobiano, tanto pelos tutores quanto para tratamento dos animais. Além disso, a falta de informação dos pacientes e o comportamento dos mesmos em relação aos seus animais de companhia levam-os a utilizarem doses insuficientes dos antimicrobianos quando os mesmos suspendem seu uso quando o animal apresenta melhora clínica. Cabe salientar ainda, a existência de resistência intrínseca do micro-organismo à antimicrobianos específicos, demonstrando a necessidade do isolamento e identificação do micro-organismo e realização da antibiograma para escolha mais adequada do antimicrobiano a ser prescrito. Conclui-se que os proprietários de cães podem compartilhar do mesmo perfil de resistência aos antimicrobianos que seus cães, demonstrando a necessidade da orientação dos mesmos para se reduzir o índice de resistência aos antimicrobianos.
Dada a importância que a produção de frango de corte ocupa no cenário mundial faz-se necessário avanço na produção animal, principalmente em relação ao ambiente de criação, buscando maior conforto ambiental no aviário e maior produtividade. Como uma forma de melhorar a ambiência, atualmente tem se empregado novas tecnologias como os sistemas de criação “Dark house” e “Blue house”. Dessa forma, o objetivo desse trabalho foi comparar o desempenho zootécnico e o custo de produção de diferentes linhagens de frangos de corte (Cobb Slow, Cobb Fast e Hubbard), sistema de ventilação (positiva e negativa) e tipo aviário (lona amarela (convencional), Blue house e Dark house). Foi realizado um levantamento de dados de desempenho e custo de duas granjas avícolas localizadas na região Oeste do estado do Paraná no período de 25 de setembro de 2012 a 25 de setembro de 2017. Verificou-se que as linhagens Hubbard e Cobb Slow apresentaram melhores resultados nas variáveis: Índice de Eficiência Produtiva (IEP) (356,3 vs. 334,6) e peso médio final (3,014 kg vs. 2,902 kg). A linhagem Hubbard também mostrou significativamente maior Ganho Médio Diário (GMD) em relação às duas outras linhagens, com uma média de 64,4 g. Em relação ao sistema de ventilação, verificou-se que a ventilação negativa é mais eficiente que a positiva quando avaliado o GMD e que o sistema Dark house e Blue house mostraram um desempenho superior ao sistema convencional (lona amarela). Conclui-se que para as linhagens genéticas modernas, o sistema de criação dark house mostrou-se mais adequado a fornecer a zona de termoneutralidade ideal, melhorando o conforto térmico do animal e propiciando melhor eficiência alimentar, demonstrada pelo maior ganho de peso diário. Neste estudo, a linhagem Hubbard demonstrou o menor custo de produção e a maior resposta à melhoria da ambiência trazida pelos sistemas de ventilação.
Na busca de técnicas que possam auxiliar na redução de micro-organismos que podem estar presentes durante o abate, pesquisas estão sendo feitas com o uso dos ácidos orgânicos e óleos essenciais como sanitizante das carcaças. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a influência do jejum pré-abate de frangos de corte na perda de peso e contaminação por Salmonella spp. do papo e eficácia do banho das carcaças com um blend de ácidos orgânicos e óleo essencial na redução de micro-organismos indicadores de contaminação. Foram avaliados três lotes de frangos de corte de uma integração, sendo que somente em dois lotes foi avaliado a perda de peso após o período de jejum. De cada lote foram colhidas amostras de 40 aves. O produto utilizado foi diluído nas concentrações de 4, 8 e 12%. A análise da presença de micro-organismos indicadores de contaminação foi feita: (1) antes da toalete final; (2) após a toalete final e (3) após o chiller. Verificou-se que a perda de peso variou entre os dois lotes avaliados. A contagem de mesófilos aeróbios foi reduzida na concentração de 12% do blend comercial. O resfriamento (chiller) das carcaças foi eficiente em reduzir a contagem de mesófilos aeróbios em 66,6% (2/3) dos lotes. Os coliformes à 45ºC estavam presentes em 66,6% (2/3) e a contagem dos micro-organismos psicrotróficos variou entre os lotes avaliados. Novos estudos são necessários visando avaliar o efeito do blend diretamente no chuveiro da toalete final, visando avaliar sua eficácia em larga escala de produção.
