Introdução: A piometra consiste em um processo inflamatório, com evolução associada a infecções bacterianas, no útero e órgãos do sistema genital, com maior incidência em nulíparas e em animais maiores de 4 anos. Essa, por sua vez, tem apresentado grande relevância na clínica de pequenos animais, uma vez que, sua ocorrência é cada vez mais frequente. Há duas formas pelas quais ela pode ser expressa, como aberta, sendo caracterizada por secreções pelo canal vaginal e como fechada, a forma mais grave, definida por distensão abdominal, sendo essa de fácil palpação. Objetivo: Descrever os achados laboratoriais e de imagem de uma cadela Shih-tzu, idosa, com piometra aberta. Relato de caso: Relata-se a descrição dos achados laboratoriais e de imagem de uma cadela shih-tzu, de 9 anos, pesando 7,4kg atendida na clínica Veterinária São Francisco de Assis. Durante a anamnese a tutora relatou que o animal havia entrado no cio a cerca de 30 dias. No exame físico foi possível constatar secreção vaginal e não foi detectado aumento de volume uterino através da palpação, além disso, os parâmetros vitais estavam dentro da normalidade. Foi solicitado um hemograma com pesquisa de hematozoário, um bioquímico (alanina aminotransferase, aspartato aminotransferase, colesterol, creatinina, fosfatase alcalina, glicose, triglicerídeos e uréia) e uma ultrassonografia. Resultados: No hemograma, constatou-se uma anemia macrocítica hipocrômica, acompanhada de uma hiperproteinemia, uma linfocitopenia, uma eosinopenia e uma monocitose relativa. Não houve presença de hematozoário. Ademais, o bioquímico não apresentou nenhuma alteração. A partir do exame ultrassonográfico, observou-se a presença de conteúdo anecóico na luz do útero, paredes espessadas e ecogênicas caracterizando assim, juntamente com o exame físico, um quadro sugestivo de piometra aberta, na qual foi recomendada a realização de ovariosalpingehisterectomia. Conclusão: A intervenção cirúrgica foi realizada com sucesso em outra clínica veterinária. Nessa, foi observada o ligeiro aumento do útero e a presença de secreção purulenta confirmando a suspeita da piometra. O animal se recuperou com êxito.
Introdução: A intoxicação por Aldicarb, composto da família dos carbamatos, conhecido popularmente como “chumbinho”, é frequente na clínica de pequenos animais. Apesar de ser de uso agrícola, é amplamente utilizado como rodenticida doméstico e para intoxicar cães e gatos de maneira ilegal. Desse modo, cabe ao médico veterinário reconhecer os sinais clínicos dessa intoxicação e estar preparado para promover o tratamento em casos de emergência por ingestão de Aldicarb. Objetivo: Evidenciar os malefícios causados por Aldicarb, demonstrar a urgência para o tratamento e listar as principais formas de tratamento utilizadas. Materiais e métodos: A Realização da pesquisa foi desenvolvida com base em literaturas e em plataformas cientificas como Pubvet®, SciELO e Google Acadêmico (Scholar), utilizando os seguintes descritores: carbamato, intoxicação de cães e gatos por Aldicarb e acetilcolinesterase. Resultado: De acordo com a pesquisa, constatou-se que a toxicidade do Aldicarb desenvolve-se por meio da inibição competitiva da enzima acetilcolinesterase (AChE), responsável por inativar a ação da acetilcolina. Quando a AChE é inibida ocorre uma hiperestimulação dos receptores muscarínicos e nicotínicos. Os sinais clínicos aparecem rapidamente, causando a morte do animal em poucos minutos, dependendo da dose ingerida. O acúmulo de acetilcolina em cães e gatos causa hiperexcitabilidade comportamental, demonstrado por um quadro de agitação aguda, após isso, outros sintomas podem ocorrer, dentre estes o vômito, diarréia, miose, bradicardia, sialorréia. Em casos graves os animais apresentam cianose e dispnéia devido ao acúmulo de secreções no trato respiratório e da broncoconstricção. Ademais, a causa mortis é a hipóxia, resultante dessas alterações. As medidas emergenciais consistem em induzir o animal ao vômito ou realizar lavagem gástrica com o objetivo de impedir uma grande absorção do carbamato; uso do sulfato de atropina para impedir os efeitos colinérgicos, que irá bloquear os efeitos da acetilcolina; em caso de hipóxia grave, é necessário o fornecimento da oxigenoterapia. Conclusão: Por ser um composto de alta toxicidade e de fácil aquisição, a ingestão de Aldicarb tem sido casuística frequente na clínica de pequenos animais. Cabe ao médico veterinário estar atento aos sinais que o paciente apresenta, para desse modo realizar o atendimento e o tratamento de maneira eficiente.
Introdução: A leishamaniose visceral é uma doença parasitária transmitida pelo flebótomo Lutzomyia longipalpis causada por um protozoário do gênero Leishmania spp. e tem uma grande importância na saúde única, visto que é uma doença zoonótica, endêmica no Brasil. É importante que o médico veterinário esteja atento aos achados clínicos dessa patologia, inclusive aqueles presentes nos exames complementares. Objetivo: Demostrar os possíveis achados no hemograma, na urinálise e no perfil hepático de cães acometidos pela leishmaniose visceral. Material e métodos: a revisão foi desenvolvida a partir de consultas bibliográficas acerca da leishamaniose visceral canina, que abordassem sobre exames complementares e artigos publicados em bancos científicos. As bibliografias utilizadas foram Hematologia E Bioquímica Clínica Veterinária (2ª ed.) e Fundamentos de Patologia Clínica Veterinária (2ª ed.). As plataformas cientificas utilizadas foram o Google Acadêmico (Scholar), The Scientific Eletronic Library Online) e Pubmed®, totalizando 6 artigos. Resultados: Relata-se que, no hemograma, é comum encontrarmos, nesses animais, uma anemia de morfologia normocítica e normocrômica, uma leucopenia com linfopenia e uma trombocitopenia, todas não regenerativas, caracterizando uma pan hipoplasia medular, em animais na fase inicial da doença é comum a leucocitose com neutrofilia. Na urinálise, comumente encontra-se leucocitúria e proteinúria, assim como presença de cilindros, podendo ser hialinos e granulosos, caracterizando lesão tubular renal. A glomerulonefrite também pode ser destacada, sendo essa acarretada devido a deposição de imunocomplexos. No exame bioquímico poucas são as diferenças relatadas, entretanto os cães afetados pela leishamania spp. podem apresentar azotemia, caracterizada pelo aumento excessivo da creatinina e ureia no exame laboratorial, a hipoalbunemia também é descrita, sendo essa em razão da resposta imune frente ao parasita, que causa inflamação hepática. Conclusão: A leishmaniose visceral canina causa diversas alterações laboratoriais em animais acometidos. Entretanto, é importante salientar que, com apenas esses exames, não é possível fechar o diagnóstico da doença, sendo esses utilizados para auxiliar o médico veterinário a complementar a suspeita clínica
Introdução: A dirofilariose é uma doença parasitária causada pelo agente etiológico Dirofilaria immitis, que tem como hospedeiro final os cães que são infectados após a picadura de vetores, sendo estes os mosquitos dos gêneros Aedes, Anopheles e Culex. Esse parasito é potencialmente fatal, pois os vermes possuem afinidade pelas artérias pulmonares, causando doença cardiorrespiratória grave nos animais. A presença desses parasitos no coração direito leva a insuficiência cardíaca direita, ocasionando os típicos sinais clínicos de dispneia, tosse, fadiga, perda de peso e intolerância ao esforço físico. As alterações vasculares evoluem de acordo com carga parasitária, no qual é iniciado as manifestações mais graves da doença, desenvolvendo a síndrome da veia cava e, por consequência, o aparecimento da efusão pleural. Objetivo: Correlacionar a presença dos vermes nas artérias pulmonares com o desenvolvimento da síndrome da veia cava e o mecanismo de formação da efusão pleural. Materiais e métodos: A Realização da pesquisa foi desenvolvida com base em literaturas e em plataformas cientificas como Pubvet®, SciELO e Google Acadêmico (Scholar), utilizando os seguintes descritores: dirofilariose, síndrome da veia cava e efusões pleurais. Resultados: A pesquisa demonstrou que cães portadores de dirofilariose desenvolvem a síndrome clínica conforme a sua carga parasitária. A alta carga parasitária estimula o desenvolvimento da síndrome da veia cava, causada pelo movimento retrógado dos parasitos, obstruindo o fluxo sanguíneo para o coração direito e regurgitação da tricúspide diminuindo o retorno venoso. O retorno sanguíneo aumenta a pressão sanguínea da veia cava tendenciando a saída do líquido do meio intravascular para o meio extravascular, ocasionando o acúmulo do líquido na cavidade pleural. Além da efusão pleural, pode haver congestão hepática e ascite. A efusão pleural resulta nos sinais clínicos de taquipneia ou dispneia, dificultando a hematose, consequentemente causando hipóxia, sendo a causa mortis em diversos casos. Conclusão: É importante elucidar a relação entre o surgimento da síndrome da veia cava, da formação de efusões cavitarias e da parasitose por Dirofilária immitis, a fim de facilitar e direcionar o tratamento, manejo e prevenção devido seu grande potencial fatal nas populações de caninos.
