Invertebrate fauna and physical and chemical attributes of soil under integrated crop-livestock systemsAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of integrated crop-livestock (ICL) systems on the main groups of soil invertebrate macrofauna and the relationship of these organisms with soil physical and chemical attributes. The conventional system, integrated crop-livestock system, no-tillage system, continuously cultivated pasture, and natural fragments of Cerrado and of semi-deciduous forest were compared. The experiment was carried out in Dourados, MS, Brazil, on a Typic Hapludox soil, divided into strips. The highest density, richness, and diversity of families were found in the ICL system, under no-tillage, and in the continuously cultivated pasture. The conventional system caused greater reduction of the soil invertebrate community. The ICL system favors the maintenance of the invertebrate fauna diversity, the formation of stable aggregates, and soil fertility. The Sthaphylinidae family is a potential soil quality bioindicator, especially in the semi-deciduous forest and in the ICL system.
ABSTRACT:A challenge for the environmental recovery of degraded areas is the search for soil data. In this process, the microbiological parameters and soil chemicals are potential indicators of soil quality. This study aimed to evaluate soil quality based on microbiological and chemical soil attributes in different areas involving environmental recovery, sugarcane cultivation and remnants of native vegetation located in a rural private property farm in State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in Hapludox Eutrophic soil. The microbiological (microbial biomass carbon, basal respiration, microbial quotient and metabolic quotient) and chemical parameters (organic matter, carbon, pH, cationic exchange capacity, sum of bases, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, saturation base and potential acidity) were assessed. Data were assessed by variance and multivariate analysis (Principal Component Analysis and cluster analysis). Overall, the results showed highest alteration in the chemical and microbiological characteristics of the soil in sugarcane cultivation area in comparison with other areas. Considering the studied recovery areas, REC1, REC5 and REC7 show chemical and microbiological conditions with most similarity to native vegetation. Despite the short period of the resilience enhancement of environmental recovery areas, the development of vegetation cover and establishment of the microbial community were determined to be important factors for improving soil quality and environmental recovery in several of the areas studied.
Palavras-chave: Biomassa microbiana, bioindicador, agroecossistemas AbstractThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of sugar cane cultivation with and without burning of residues on microbial biomass, soil basal respiration and their derived indices. The study was carried out from 2009 to 2010, at the sugar mills, Itahum district, the city of Dourados, MS, on a Hapludox soil. An adjacent area of native vegetation was included in the study as a reference the original condition of the soil. Soil samples were collected at three depths: 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 cm, with five composite samples, from five subsamples collected at intervals of ten feet between each other, along a transect. Considering the different cropping systems, the results demonstrated the system without burning (mechanized harvesting) of the sugar cane residues, favored microbial biomass and basal respiration and soil chemical properties, compared with the system with burning, especially in the upper layers of soil.
