LUENGO, F. J.; RAMOS, M. A.; HERNÁNDEZ, M. M. E.; DÍAZ, R. C. Y.; MEDRANO, L. E. C. & TOSCANO, G. I.Efectividad clínica y radiográfica de la pasta antibiótica CTZ en pulpotomías de molares primarios. Ensayo clinico aleatorio controlado. Int. J. Odontostomat., 10(3):425-431, 2016.
ABSTRACTThe promotion of oral health in the early years of life is important to promote well-being and prevent early childhood cavities. The aim of this work was to determine the level of knowledge, beliefs, and perceptions of a group of Mexican university students in the area of health on early childhood cavities. A questionnaire was applied to students (N = 515) of the tenth semester of the degrees of Nursing, Medicine, and Dentistry based on the "Health professional's guide to pediatric oral health management, "Guide for oral health risk assessment training" and "Dental Beliefs Scale N". The x2 test was used to analyze the association of variables among students. Of the total respondents, 80.7% scored regular knowledge, 13.3% good, and 6% poor. Association was observed in the belief of knowing how to treat problems of tooth decay (x 2 = 0.003, p < 0.05), how to perform oral hygiene on children (x 2 = 0.025, p < 0.05) and in perception between the information and bachelor's degree (x 2 = 0.012, p < 0.05). Educational programs in the area of health must find ways to introduce topics on best practices in child oral health, particularly those related to dental cavities and early childhood cavities.
The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the forefoot varus (FV) on the kinematics of the lower limb, in standing and during walking, in a group of children aged between 7 and 10 years. The Oxford Foot Model was used, simultaneously with a conventional lower limb model, to compare the kinematics of 10 forefoot varus children (9.3 ± 1.7 years; 6.1º ± 2.3º of FV) and 11 healthy controls (9.2 ± 1.6 years). Data acquisition was performed using a six-camera motion capture system. The independent t- test was used to compare normal data and the Mann-Whitney test to compare non-normal data. In standing, the FV group showed a higher hindfoot eversion, a lower height of the internal longitudinal arch and a higher flexion in the 3 main joints of the lower limb. During walking, this group presented a higher hindfoot eversion and a lower height of the internal longitudinal arch in all the studied phases; on the other hand, a higher pelvis anterior tilt, a higher flexion of the 3 main joints of the lower limb and a higher external rotation of the hip were found. There were no differences in the gait speed but, to achieve this speed, the FV group needed a higher cadence, due to a lower length and duration of the step.
