The continued growth in demand for cement has raised concerns in the industry about environmental and sustainability issues. In addition, the worldwide generation of large quantities of solid waste threatens human health and on environmental quality. This paper proposes to assess the feasibility of using a residual powder derived from organic waste of vegetable or animal origin for replacing part of Portland cement during concrete production. Specifically, the powder is derived from a living being such as the remains of food (meat, vegetables, fruits and eggshells), paper, wood, bones and seeds. Its scientific contribution is a conscious change due to development of an alternative material to contribute with more sustainable processes in the construction industry. Three types of mixtures for cement content were studied: aggregate/cement (A/C) ratios of 15, 10 and 6. Concrete samples were then made by replacing the cement with organic waste powder in percentages of 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. These mixtures were evaluated for their physical and mechanical properties. The results showed that the reference concrete had higher compressive strength than the concrete with low cement content (A/C ratio of 15:1). However, samples made with 5% of powder and an A/C ratio of 10:1 presented values at least 2.1% greater than compressive strength of the reference concrete. Mixtures rich in cement (A/C ratio of 6:1) and the powder replacements of up to 10% showed in the best mechanical behavior in 13% in relation to the reference concrete. Therefore, waste powder can be used as filling material to replace part of the cement, resulting in denser and more resistant concrete, as well as less specific absorption and voids.

The analysis of the overall stability of the structures is highly important in the field of civil construction, since the trend towards the construction of taller and more slender buildings has only increased in the country. This work portrays a study on global stability, carried out in a building of multiple reinforced concrete floors considering the rigid core as a bracing system. To make the study feasible, three dimensions were made with different positions of the rigid core: centered on the building, eccentric on the largest side of the building and eccentric on the smallest side of the building. The analysis of global stability was performed using the γ_z coefficient, which also allowed to classify the structure as to the types of nodes. Analyzes were also carried out regarding the consumption of materials such as steel, concrete and shapes of the buildings studied. This research concluded that the rigid core located in the center of the building presented better results than the other locations with respect to global stability. The study of the material consumption carried out did not make it possible to determine precisely which project has the best cost benefit due to the alteration of the rigid core, which makes a more detailed study necessary.
There is great interest in the use of natural fibers as reinforcement to obtain new construction materials due to its low cost, high availability and reduced energy consumption for its production. This paper evaluates the incorporation of sisal fibers of 20 mm and 40 mm in length and volume fraction of 0.5% and 1% for concrete masonry structural blocks, and determines the use of these units to build prisms and mini-walls. Laboratory tests were carried out to characterize the physical of blocks and mortar, in addition to the axial compression tests of the units, prisms, and mini-walls. The sisal had low apparent density and high water absorption, which is a common feature of such material due to the high incidence of permeable pores. The physical properties of the blocks with and without addition complied with the standard requirements established to validate their use. The obtained results showed that the fiber-reinforced mini-walls obtained values very close to or even higher than those obtained for the mini-walls without fibers, demonstrating better performance than the blocks and prisms.
