Alle organischen Verbindungen kann man im Hinblick auf ihr magnetisches Verhalten in 2 Klassen teilen, in diamagnetische und paramagnetische. Die Untersuchung der diamugnetischen Verbindungen ist hesonders von P. P a s c a l * ) durchgefuhrt worden, wobei sich zeigte, daS der Anwendungsbereich und die Problemstellung hier ahnlich liegen wie bei der Molekularrefrsktion. Die Weiterentwicklung dieser Anwendung der Magnetochemie wird heute in erster Linie eine Frage der MeStechnik bzw. der MeSgenauigkeit sein.Zu den parumugnetischen organischen Stoffen sind vor allem die freien Radikale s, zu rechnen. Hier diirfte das magnetische Verhalten die zur Zeit sicherste Grundlage fiir die Definition dieser Stoffklasse geben , indem niimlich alle organischen Verbindungen mit magnetisch nicht kompensierten Elektronen freie Radikale sind 4).Der experimentell ermittelte molare Suszeptibilitiitswert des Magnetismus einer Verbindung setzt sich stets aus 3 Anteilen zusammen5):(1)Xgef. = Xci f XP + X r I) 111. Niiller, Miiller-Rodloff: Hagnetochemische[Jahrg. 68 2.5 g Brenzschleimsaure-ester. Der gereinigte Ester wurde durch Mischprobe identifiziert. 5) Umsetzung 'van Benzfurils) mit Nitro-methan: Die Arbeitsweise war ganz ahnlich wie beim Furil, doch wurden, da sich Benzfuril etwas leichter in Pyridin lost. 6 g des Diketons in 30 ccm Pyridin aufgenommen und die Losung mit einer alkohol. Losung von Natriumathylat (0.7 g Na) und Nitro-methan (1.8 g) versetzt. Aus dem Natriumsalz erhielten wir 3 g rohe Nitroverbindungen, die bei der Destillation mit Wasserdampf teilweise zersetzt wurden, wobei vie1 schwarzes Harz im Kolben zuruckblieb. Aus dem Destillat gewannen wir 1.4 g w-Nitro-styrol, konnten aber kein Furyl-nitro-athylen isolieren. Das Filtrat vom Natriumsalz lieferte 3.5 g Ester-Gemisch, das im Vakuum rektifiziert wurde; durch Kuhlung des Destillats und anschliel3endes Umkrystallisieren erhielten wir 0.8 g reinen Brenzs c h le i m s au r ea t h y 1 ester. Die Ausbeute an reinem B e nz o e s au r eester betrug 1.3 g.

Mitteil. : Weitere Beitrage zur Frage der Existenz In unserer ersten Mitteilungl) haben wir versucht, die Frage der Existenz von Biradikalen auf Grund folgender iiberlegung zu einer Entscheidung zu bringen: Freie Radikale weisen &en erheblichen Paramagnetismus a d , da sie ein magnetisch nicht kompensiertes Elektron besitzen. Dieses unabgesattigte Spin-Moment fiihrt bei Zimmer-Temperatur zu einer paramagnetischen Susceptibilitat von etwa 1260 x entsprechend &em Bohrschen Magneton2). Besitzt ein Molekiil Biradikal-Struktur, d. h. sind zwei freie Valenzen vorhanden, so ware demnach ein Susceptibilitatswert von etwa 2520 x zu erwarten8), falls nicht durch eine unbekannte Wechselwirkung sich die Spin-Momente der beiden freien Elektronen kompensieren. Die VOP uns in der ersten Mitteilung ausfiihrlich wiedergegebenen Untersuchungen haben zu dem Ergebnis gefiihrt, dal3 eine Reihe von bisher als Biradikale angesprochenen Verbindungen kein e Biradikale sind. Der im Temperatur-Gleichgewicht eventuell vorhandene Anted an Biradikalen ist im mtremsten F d e auf etwa 2 % zu beschriinken.
