The study gauges the research performance of the BRICS bloc in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) research using Performance analysis and Science mapping. The Web of Science database is used for the study and articles published between 2013 and 2022 have been selected for analysis. Data analysis and visualisation have been done using the Bibliometrix R package and VOSviewer. The findings reveal an upward trend in publications. Furthermore, China has been the most prolific nation in terms of productivity and impact. Scientometrics is the leading source in terms of publications while the International Journal of Information Management is the most cited source. With regard to author productivity, Zhang Y has the highest number of publications while Lowry PB is the most cited author. Wuhan University is the most productive organization. In terms of collaboration, the USA is the primary partner for the entire BRICS group, particularly China and collaboration among the BRICS isn’t as significant as it is with the non-BRICS countries. This study provides insightful information about recent scientific developments in the field of LIS. Additionally, by using this research as a guide, researchers from different fields will be able to analyse how the body of knowledge on a certain subject has evolved over time. This study also outlines potential research directions in this field of research.
Purpose The study aims to analyse the “Top 100” articles that were most discussed on social media in 2020. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on the data retrieved from the Altmetric database. The data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel for further analysis. Moreover, articles were examined at an individual level to retrieve author affiliations for research collaboration analysis. Findings The most discussed article on social media for the year 2020 has an Article Attention Score (AAS) of 34775. COVID-19 related studies have dominated the list and it comes as no surprise since COVID-19 became the focal point of many researchers and publishers ever since the pandemic started. These articles have been published across 63 journals with the highest contributions from reputed journals such as Nature, PLoS ONE and Science. The majority (46%) of articles has been published in open access. Finally, the majority of publications are a result of research collaboration. Originality/value This study reflects the societal impact of research that could be used as an indicator of research performance.
This study aims to examine the availability of literature on “Continuous Professional Development” (CPD) related to the Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals from 2002 to 2021 in the Web of Science (WoS) database. A comprehensive search strategy coupled with filters was devised to extract relevant data from the database. It led to the retrieval of 345 documents. This was followed by “abstract screening analysis” to achieve the highest level of desired “content relevancy”. Finally, 268 documents were selected and saved in the marked list for further analysis. Data analysis and network visualisation were performed using the R bibliometric package and VOSviewer respectively. The study analysed various parameters such as: publication and citation trends; prolific authors, sources and countries; highly cited articles and nature of authorship and collaboration pattern; the most frequently used keywords; and the citation analysis pattern of authors, articles and sources.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
