Purpose This study aims to analyse and understand the current state of research in the field of digital marketing in “library and information science”. Design/methodology/approach This study used a “bibliometric research design.” A lexical title search was used to obtain the required data set for executing this study, and a comprehensive “indexing and abstracting” database, Web of Science, was used as a data harvesting source. Louvain’s clustering algorithm was used for network metrics. Findings The findings revealed that research productivity and impact have grown considerably over time, indicating significant attention towards digital marketing research in library and information science (LIS). Moreover, the results showed that the overall author collaboration patterns were weak, hence creating room for development in the author’s collaboration patterns. Practical implications The current study could be very beneficial in providing a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the “digital marketing” research field scholarly output in LIS, which can be used by researchers, practitioners and policymakers to guide their work and make informed decisions. Originality/value The originality of this bibliometric study lies in its comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the current state of research in the field of “digital marketing” in LIS. This study provides a unique and in-depth understanding of the key authors, venues and papers in the field, as well as the trends and patterns in the research.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the measurement of research performance. These studies evaluate a country or groups of countries according to their research performance and make some inferences to improve their performance. This study analyses the research performance of Turkish higher education, which aims for higher positions in international rankings, in the context of publication productivity, impact and collaboration with data based on Web of Science and comprehensive indicators for the years 1980–2022. In addition, research area-based analyses were also made. In this way, by presenting Türkiye’s performance from past to present in a comprehensive manner, rich information has been provided to policy makers, decision makers, and practical implications have been made for the improvement of performance. According to the results of the study, Türkiye has been faced with low productivity for many years. Both the area-based analyses and the results for the overall publication impact revealed that although there has been an increase in publication impact in recent years, Türkiye’s publication impact has performed below the world average in all years examined. The results indicated that Turkish higher education has some problems in terms of quality. As for research collaboration, the results showed that Türkiye gives more importance to domestic collaborative publications rather than international collaboration, while industry collaboration continues to remain in the background. Based on the results of the study, practical implications for policy makers and decision makers were made.

Research productivity serves as a manifestation of faculty’s research achievements and reflects their research capabilities. This study focuses on the research productivity of library and information science faculty in selected North American universities. The primary objective is to explore the factors influencing research productivity, including academic degree, professional cadre, and educational background. Furthermore, this study proposes targeted suggestions to enhance faculty’s research productivity and optimize the research environment. The findings indicate significant variations in scientific research productivity among library and information science teachers in North America. Academic degree exerts a significant positive influence on research productivity, while professional cadre demonstrates a limited but positive impact. However, the effect of educational background on research productivity is not significant based on this study. This research provides valuable insights for the development of scientific research productivity in the field of library and information science.
