Rice straw is an abundant resource that was still seen as a waste in intensive rice cultivation. Rice straw is said to be a resource because it can be used as organic fertilizer (compost) and contains nutrients that were beneficial for crop growth and soil fertility. The fact in the field was still found that rice straw was wasted, one of which was burned. A study was conducted through a method of observation and survey involving rice paddy farmers in 3 sub-districts in the district of Klungkung, namely Banjarangkan, Klungkung and Dawan. The aim of the research was to know the production of rice straw waste and the potential of wasted organic fertilizer in intensive rice cultivation. Based on the results obtained the production of dried straw waste in each harvest about 10.21 tons/ha. Farmers do not utilize rice straw as compost by reason, not knowing how to composting. There were 30.34% of farmers who burn straw because based on the knowledge gained burn is an easy way to restore rice straw to the ground. The impact of burning rice straw was around 5,887,086 - 7,888.7 tons of organic fertilizer wasted.
The integrated farming system was an agricultural system that integrates the various agriculture components in a whole unified. It has a positive impact and meets the criteria for the development of sustainable agricultural by optimizing the user of local resources. The one indicator of the success of the integrated farming development was the farmer’s income are increasing. In developing, the program of an integrated farming system in Bali was targeted in 3-4 years for getting a double income. On the one hand, there were many research shows that the implementation of an integrated farming system in Bali has increased the farmer’s income. On the other hand, the job vacancy was created for family farmers. Although, the implementation of the integrated agriculture system has not been optimal. Wherein, the farmers get a benefit in selling their organic fertilizers that were used to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
Rice straw is an abundant material which can be utilized as an ingredient in organic fertilizer or compost. Especially since various laboratories test also found that rice straw, which tends to be viewed as farm waste, contains beneficial nutrients, which aid in plant growth and in maintaining soil fertility. In actual practice, rice straw often left wasting unused, disposed mostly by burning. Hence it necessitated a survey to learn the percentage of farmers that compost rice straw within an area to be undertaken, especially at regions that have been designated as rice cultivation center. The study was conducted in three districts in Klungkung region, e.g., Banjarangkan, Klungkung, and Dawan. Klungkung region was chosen as a research site due to its inclusion as one of the areas where the national program of rice, corn, and soybean (Pajale) development was being undertaken. The survey for this study was conducted by giving out questionnaires and interviews. The survey was conducted with 89 respondents. The results found in this study revealed that there was no farmer who composted rice straw. It was found that 97.75% of farmers admitted not to compost their rice straw due to their lack of knowledge on the way and means of rice straw composting. In fact, it was found that 74.16% of farmers have no notion that rice straw could be turned into compost. This data was in line with results found from interviewing 12 extension worker officials who fully admitted that they were never done any socializing effort on rice straw compost at all. It was found that 97.75% of farmers admit not to compost their rice straw due to their lack of knowledge on the way and means of rice straw composting.
Introduction: Bali, as an international tourist destination, is still experiencing problems in waste management. Suwung Landfill, Denpasar, is one of the landfills for waste originating from the Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan (Sarbagita) areas. Methods: This research was an experimental study, by watering eco-enzymes on garbage heaps and examining changes in leachate parameters. Watering was carried out daily at a dose of 1 L of eco-enzyme dissolved in 1000 L of water and used for watering a garbage pile of 1 ha. The area of piles of garbage watered with eco-enzymes reaches 5 ha. Measured leachate parameters include pH, BOD, COD, TSS, N, cadmium, and mercury. Results and Discussion: Eco-enzymes have the potential to become activators or decomposers in waste composting. The evidence is that eco-enzyme watering causes the average leachate temperature to range from 36.63 to 40.370C, where the increase in leachate temperature occurs due to the rise in the temperature of the garbage pile. An increase in temperature characterizes the activity of microbes increases, so the decomposition process becomes rapid. Conclusion: Eco-enzyme spraying leads to a characteristic change in the form of an increase in the value of leachate parameters. The increase in temperature value, pH, BOD, COD, and N content of leachate indicates that environmentally friendly enzymes accelerate the decomposition of organic matter. The rapid decomposition process causes the total suspended density of leachate to increase.
Utilization of Rice Straw Compost To Improve Soil Fertility and Rice ResultsAbstract. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of a combination of rice straw compost and inorganic fertilizer (phonska) on soil fertility and rice crop yields. The rice used in this study is the rice seed of the Ciherang variety. The research was conducted in a pot container with a diameter of 24 cm and with a height of 26 cm. Each pot is given 8 kg of soil, with the quality of compost used which has a pH of 7.58, the water content of 11.79%, C/N ratio of 16.50, C-organic content of 27.84%, N of 1.69, P content of 0.23% and K of 5.04%. The combination of rice straw compost and phonska used in this study is P0 (0% compost + 0% phonska), P1 (0% compost + 100% phonska), P2 (20% compost + 80 % phonska), P3 (40% compost + 60% phonska), P4 (60% compost + 40% phonska) and P5 (80% compost + 20% phonska). The study with 6 treatments and 4 replays used a randomized design group (RAK). As a result, the combination of compost and inorganic fertilizer (phonska) improves the physical, biological, and chemical parameters of the soil, but has not been able to change the fertility status of the soil. The utilization of compost combined with inorganic fertilizer also gives the same result as 100% phonska. Where a combination dose of 60% compost + 40% phonska gives the highest dry grain weight results compared to other combinations.
