Recently the patients with multiple fractures are increasing in number, according to rapid growing traffic and labor accidents. Between 1980 and 1985, 414 patients with fractures were admitted to Tokuyama Chuo Hospital. 56 patients among them suffered from multiple fractures. These patients were reviewed to know the relationship between the mechanism, the nature of fractures, and other organ injury. The cases with spine fractures and femoral neck fractures over 65 years old were excluded in this study. 42 patients were male and 14 patients were female. The age range was from 7 to 75 years old. 41 patients were injured in traffic accidents and 11 patients in labor accidents. There were 14 head injuries, 3 hemopneumothoraxies, and 7 abdominal traumas in 22 patients. Because of these complications, the orthopedic managements tend to be delayed, and surgical methods are highly required. It is desired that the orthopedic managements start as soon as possible, cooperating with other surgens.
