Com este segundo volume dos Escritos de Filosofia, Henrique C. de Lima Vaz S.J., o Padre Vaz, como é mais comum e carinhosamente conhecido, confirma sua marcante presença no terreno da fllosofIa brasileira. Presença esta servida por aguda inteligência e invejável erudição que transita com liberdade da Grécia antiga à bibliografia alemã mais recente. A produção fI losófica do Pe. Vaz não data de hoje, mas pode, de certo modo, passar despercebida, pois se encontra em grande parte dispersa em numerosos artigos de revista. Nem todos eles foram recolhidos em seu primeiro livro (Ontologia e História, São Paulo, Duas Cidades, 1968) nem no primeiro volum� dos Escritos de Filosofia, São Paulo, Loyola, 1986. Neste sentido, o segundo volume dos Escritos vem nos revelar de modo mais patente e irrecusável o lado sistemático de grande fôlego do Pe. Vazo De fato, este viés, embora presente nos volumes anteriores, podia ser encoberto pelo fato de serem constituídos de textos mais curtos independentes entre si e que, apesar de veicularem um forte senso de conjunto, podiam perfeitamente ser lidos como ensaios particulares. Estamos agora diante de um texto longo cobrindo mais de duzentas páginas e que expõe uma temática unificada, ficando os ensaios de "fllosofIa miúda" -se nos for permitido apropriarmo-nos do título de uma obra de outro pensador brasileiro cuj a importância não pode ser negada -reservados para os anexos que não chegam a se estender além das setenta páginas. Além disso, o Pe. Vaz nos anuncia um terceiro e um quarto volumes dos Escritos, que seriam do mesmo feitio: É tica e Liberdade
