Es wurden Eisen‐Nickel‐Legierungen mit 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 und 95 Atom % Eisen im strömenden Ammoniak bei Temperaturen von 300 bis 1000° C azotiert.
Die Legierungen nehmen je nach dem Eisengehalt verschiedene Mengen Stickstoff auf. Die maximal aufgenommenen Stickstoffmengen werden mit steigendem Eisengehalt größer. Man kann die maximale Stickstoffaufnahme erhöhen, wenn man die Legierungen zunächst bei 600–800° C mit Ammoniak vorbehandelt, auf Zimmertemperatur abschreckt und anschließend bei 400–500° C erschöpfend azotiert.
An den azotierten Legierungen wurden folgende Phasen beobachtet: Bei Legierungen mit einem Eisengehalt von 10 bis zu 70 Atom% Fe ist unterhalb 5 Gew.% Stickstoff eine kubisch‐flächenzentrierte Legierungsphase und eine ebenfalls kubisch‐flächenzentrierte Nitridphase zu beobachten. Oberhalb 5 Gew.% Stickstoff tritt die kubischflächenzentrierte Nitridphase nur noch allein auf. Bei Eisengehalten von 80 Atom % Fe und höher treten außer den bereits genannten Phasen noch eine kubisch raumzentrierte Legierungsphase und eine hexagonale Nitridphase auf. Die kubisch raumzentrierte Legierungsphase tritt nur bei Stickstoffkonzentrationen bis zu 3 Gew.% und Azotierungstemperaturen bis zu 450° C auf.
Die kubisch‐flächenzentrierte Legierungsphase entspricht dem γ‐Eisen und vermag ebenso wie dieses Stickstoff unter Gitterweitung zu lösen. Das Lösungsvermögen steigt mit größer werdendem Eisengehalt.Die kubisch‐raumzentrierte Legierungsphase entspricht dem α‐Eisen und vermag nur sehr wenig Stickstoff in fester Lösung aufzunehmen.Die kubisch‐flächenzentrierte Nitridphase entspricht dem Fe4N, nur mit dem Unterschied, daß ein Teil des Eisens durch Nickel ersetzt ist.Die hexagonale Nitridphase entspricht dem Fe2N, in dem allerdings nur ein geringer Teil des Eisens durch Nickel ersetzt ist.
Die thermische Beständigkeit der azotierten Legierungen ist sehr klein. Die Zersetzungstemperaturen liegen zwischen 400 und 500° C.
Das in der vorangehenden Mitteilung2) entwickelte Meßverfahren wird an platinierten Platinelektroden in Jod‐Jodid‐Lösung experimentell verifiziert. Die Adsorption von √3 wird bei verschiedenen Konzentrationen bestimmt. Unter Heranziehung von Doppelschichtkapazitätsmessungen wird die adsorbierte Menge je wahre Elektrodenoberfläche näherungsweise ermittelt. — Weiterhin wird die Adsorption von Fe2+, Fe3+ an platiniertem Platin und von Ag+ an blanken Silberelektroden untersucht; in diesen Fällen läßt sich ein oberer Grenzwert für die Adsorption angeben.
