This article presents a comprehensive analysis of writing motivation and the ability in writing a research proposals of Generation Z students based on differences in their cognitive styles. The research involved 70 Generation Z students in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji, Indonesia. After going through the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) stages, these students were divided into 2 groups based on their cognitive style, field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD). Writing motivation data was collected through a questionnaire and the writing ability of writing research proposals was collected through an assessment rubric. Analysis of research data using t-test and linear regression with SPSS 23. The results of this study stated that the writing motivation of Generation Z students between the FI group and the FD group did not differ significantly. Meanwhile, the ability in writing research proposals for Generation Z students in the FI group was higher than for Generation Z students in the FD group. Writing motivation has a significant effect on the ability in writing research proposals in both groups. The results of this study recommend for analysis other perspectives and the exploration of thinking characteristics of Generation Z students in written language.
Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan deskripsi tentang bentuk, kategori, makna dan fungsi dari ungkapan kepercayaan rakyat di masyarakat Minangkabau. Penggunaan metode deskriptip kualitatif diberlakukan terhadap tiga informan selaku sumber data yang layak untuk dikaji. Hasilnya adalah kearifan lokal masyarakat Minangkabau ditemukan struktur, makna dan fungsi yang merepresentasikan kebudayaan yang diwarisinya.
In the teaching of writing in school, teachers often find obstacles to build students' creativity. Learning to do also seem more monotonous with the lack of utilization of instructional media that are causing interest and motivation in writing. Though learning media function is very helpful in teaching teachers studied linguistic competence, especially writing. In addition, students learn to write is often difficult to start a paper to be written. They tend to be difficult to come up with ideas that will be used as the text. In this case, the media was instrumental in helping the students to come up with ideas that would be written. In addition, this media can also build students' creativity in developing writing by combining the knowledge and experience possessed by the student. Media learning innovative nature will greatly help students to mengkonstuksi the existing knowledge in the minds of students to form a more unique and varied in the resulting article. Pembelajaran yang dilakukan juga terkesan lebih monoton dengan minimnya pemanfaatan media pembelajaran yang sifatnya merangsang minat dan motivasi siswa dalam menulis. Padahal fungsi medtulia pembelajaran ini sangat membantu guru dalam membelajarkan kompetensi kebahasaan yang dipelajari, terutama menulis. Di samping itu, siswa yang belajar menulis juga seringkali sulit untuk memulai tulisan yang akan ditulisnya. Mereka cenderung kesulitan untuk memunculkan ide-ide yang akan dijadikan tulisan tersebut. Dalam hal ini, media sangat berperan dalam membantu siswa untuk memunculkan ide yang akan ditulis. Selain itu, media ini juga dapat membangun kreativitas siswa dalam mengembangkan tulisan dengan mengombinasi pengetahuan dan pengalaman yang dimiliki oleh siswa tersebut. Media-media pembelajaran yang sifatnya inovatif akan sangat membantu siswa untuk mengkonstuksi ulang pengetahuan yang ada dalam pikiran siswa menjadi bentuk yang lebih unik dan variatif dalam tulisan yang dihasilkan.
