By m eans of a set of fatty acid and fatty acid ester spinlabels we found th at spo n tan eo u s pero x id atio n of lecithin m ultilayers increases the rigidity of all regions of the lipid bilayer. H ow ever the p a rtitio n coefficient of T E M P O increased with peroxidation indicating a g reater affinity of T E M P O to the m odified bilayer.

Thermal lability of bovine erythrocyte membrane proteins was studied by electron spin resonance using maleimide spin label. The temperature of the sample during measurements could be varied for the first time be­ tween 0 and 60 °C with an accuracy of ± 0.1 °C. Our results show that “old” erythrocyte membrane proteins are less stable against thermal denaturation then “young” cells.

For the first time ferromagnetic resonance measurements are presented on ion plated amorphous ribbons with systematic variation of deposition material and film thickness. The metallic glasses Co66Fe4(MoSiB)30 and Fe39Ni39Mo2Si12B8 are ion‐plated with iron, nickel, and chromium. Anglevarying FMR‐measurements provide information about magnetization, g‐factor, linewidth, and magnetic anisotropy in the ribbon plane.
