Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis gaya komunikasi yang berkembang di masyarakat Minangkabau, Jawa, dan Bugis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam (in-depth), pengamatan (obsevasi), dokumentasi, dan literatur. Wawancara dan observasi dilakukan di tiga kota penting: Padang (untuk mencermati gaya komunikasi masyarakat Minangkabau), Surakarta (untuk mencermati gaya komunikasi masyarakat Jawa), dan Makassar (untuk mencermati gaya komunikasi masyarakat Bugis). Hasil peneltian ini mendeskripsikan gaya komunikasi yang berkembang di masyarakat Minangkabau, Jawa, dan Bugis dengan memberikan titik berat pada empat aspek: (a) kecenderungan dalam penggunaan kata benda atau kata kerja (nouniness and verbiness), (b) penggunaan kalimat pasif atau aktif, (c) penggunaan cara pengutaraan gagasan secara langsung (direct) ataukah tidak langsung (indirect), dan (d) penggunaan kata-kata atau kalimat ketika mendapati diri berbeda posisi pendapat atau pandangan dengan orang lain yang menjadi partner dalam berbincang. Perbedaan di keempat aspek gaya komunikasi tersebut dapat dinilai sebagai implikasi dari kebudayaan dari ketiga masyarakat Minang, Jawa dan Bugis.
The existence of new media, especially the internet and social media, has a broad impact on the life of the human civilization, including the world of the mass media industry. The internet and social media are seen as having significant urgency because their influences on contemporary journalism practices in terms of perception, agenda setting, agenda framing, reporting practices, production and news publication. This study examines the perception of journalists in Surakarta City regarding the urgency of the internet and social media for contemporary journalism practices. This research used a qualitative method in which data were collected through interviews and documentation. The results found that (1) new media as something inevitable for the world of the press; (2) new media as modern technology has a positive impact on the world of the press; (3) new media as modern technology has a negative impact on the world of the press.
<p><em>M</em><em>ass media is a part of human life because of its function which is closely related to society</em><em>, whether it is </em><em>information, interpretation, and entertainment</em><em> function</em><em>. This raises the need for special skills among the community, which are not limited to the skills of consuming media content</em><em> only</em><em>. On the other hand, the emergence of social media has increasingly urged skills in using media known as media literacy, or more specifically digital media literacy. Furthermore, in the internet era like today, problems related to the rampant hate speech still need special attention and comprehensive handling. Seeing this phenomenon, the KKN team from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and the Vocational School </em><em>of Universitas Sebelas Maret conducted a </em><em>community service activities in the form of socialization about education about hate speech and media literacy which aims to minimize the spread of hate speech on social media. This activity was carried out in Juwok Village, Sukodono District, Sragen Regency, Central Java Province. This activity was carried out using the lecture and discussion method, with tools in the form of microsoft power points and videos which were attended by 20 teenagers from Juwok Village. Participants participated in this activity with enthusiasm, which could be seen from their responses during the socialization session. Apart from having a thorough understanding and knowledge of hate speech and media literacy, the participants of this activity are also expected to be able to apply everything they have obtained from the socialization session through their respective social media accounts.</em><strong><em></em></strong></p>
