Ensuring the conservation of current resources for future generations has become a challenge that from day to day turns to be more important and urgent for society. Despite the fact that sustainability and project management have been subjects of interest in the academic community, few investigations are related to the integration of sustainability within project management, even fewer in the Colombian context. This empirical research work presents results about the perception from a representative sample of project managers from the construction industry in Colombia related to the implementation of elements of sustainability when managing projects established in the maturity model of Salem Azahrani. The results indicate, on one hand, a low average level of maturity and on the other, a higher orientation toward aspects of the economical dimension of the projects in comparison with the social and environmental dimensions.

This chapter deals with the adoption of communication management practices applied by project managers in Colombia. It has become a priority in project management practices in the past decade, but the research field and knowledge domain has seen limited empirical evidence. Therefore, it verifies the influence of the application of these types of practices against performance indicators obtained in projects. To carry out this preliminary study, leaders of companies from different sectors of Bogota in Colombia were interviewed under a mixed-methods approach. It was verified that the practices currently applied have a low adoption rate, but they are influential for achieving success in project management and highlight the importance of these types of techniques for the performance of the planned work. This study aims to generate the option of applying unconventional approaches to manage communication in projects that allow for improving performance rates in companies.

This article examines team conflict in project management. A study of the current literature, the focus of the bodies of knowledge and the perspective of managers in Colombia is presented. Information is collected through a questionnaire about the impact of sources, types of conflicts, dispute resolution mechanisms and progress reports on the final performance of projects carried out recently by the interviewees. The importance of conflict resolution has been validated as a success factor in the management and performance of projects. The chapter aims to increase researcher interest in the subject, as well as to encourage the development and implementation of methodological tools, in order to achieve better results in the implementation and success of projects.

Este trabajo de busca analizar el impacto de la utilización del Balanced Scorecard como herramienta estratégica de apoyo en la gestión de proyectos, para el sector de Tecnología de Información en Colombia. El estudio de carácter exploratorio indaga sobre la integración de Balanced Scorecard con las actividades propias de la gestión de proyectos, se desarrolló un trabajo de campo con 105 gerentes de proyectos en el sector de estudio, comparando proyectos desarrollados con diferentes metodologías de seguimiento y control, contra proyectos que han implementado el Balance Scorecard. Los resultados permiten establecer que el Balanced Scorecard es una herramienta que puede mejorar la eficacia y eficiencia de la gestión de los proyectos en términos de alineación de los resultados del proyecto con la estrategia de la organización. Este estudio permite concluir que el Balanced Scorecard permite establecer y hacer medidas estratégicas y conexiones más claras entre el proyecto y la estrategia organizacional, que pueden ocasionar un mejor desempeño interno del equipo del proyecto en términos de entrega oportuna, cumplimiento de presupuesto, gestión de la calidad, alcance y riesgos del proyecto.
