À l’heure de la refondation de l’École française, cet article propose de confronter deux projets : celui porté par l’éthique du care et celui porté par l’Éducation Nationale afin d’envisager la possibilité de les faire entrer en dialogue. S’appuyant sur des textes du projet national, il interroge les liens entre le care et une notion en vogue dans le système éducatif français, celle de « bienveillance ». Puis, partant de l’hypothèse que cette bienveillance attendue a à voir avec le caring, il propose de prendre appui sur les travaux menés par la philosophe de l’éducation Nel Noddings afin de voir comment ces derniers peuvent contribuer à la configuration de la bienveillance tel qu’attendu pour le système français. Le fondement relationnel du caring et les quatre phases de son développement définies par Noddings permettent alors à la bienveillance de gagner en précision et en opérationnalisation et d’étayer le projet de refondation de l’école.
