Cuadernos de Biodiversidad RESUMENEl cultivo del chile (Capsicum spp.) es importante en la historia, tradición y cultura de México y es, además, un producto agrícola con alta demanda mundial. A pesar de esto, el chile se ha estudiado poco en el estado de Tabasco. En este trabajo se describe la diversidad morfológica in situ, con base en dieciocho características morfológicas de planta, fl or y fruto de cuarenta poblaciones de Capsicum entre las que se encuentran nativas de Tabasco e introducidas. De acuerdo con la denominación local de los agricultores, las muestras se clasifi caron en doce tipos raciales de los cuales, nueve pertenecen a Capsicum annuum L.
El chile habanero (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) es distintivo de la Península de Yucatán, México; sin embargo, los estudios de diversidad genética a nivel molecular en este cultivo son escasos. El presente trabajo se planteó con el objetivo de caracterizar la diversidad genética del germoplasma de chile habanero, mediante marcadores ISSR. El material genético consistió en 60 poblaciones criollas de chile habanero recolectadas en los estados de Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo y Tabasco, México, las cuales fueron genéticamente analizadas con tres loci ISSRs. El ADN fue extraído por el método de CTAB y los fragmentos se amplificaron por la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR). Los datos se analizaron con los programas POPGENE V 1.31 y NTSYS V 2.0 mediante un análisis de componentes principales y las relaciones entre las poblaciones se obtuvieron con un análisis jerárquico de conglomerados usando el método UPGMA. Se detectaron un total 32 bandas y 98 % de ellas fueron polimórficas. Los resultados indican que la diversidad genética en poblaciones de chile habanero es alta, en donde el 95.5 % de la variación observada se encuentra dentro de las poblaciones y sólo el 4.5 % entre ellas. Se detectó un alto flujo génico entre las poblaciones. Los resultados de los análisis multivariados sugieren que gran cantidad de germoplasma de chile habanero se ha dispersado del estado de Yucatán a los estados de Campeche, Quintana Roo y Tabasco. El patrón de distribución de la diversidad genética de chile habanero no se asoció con el lugar de origen de las poblaciones analizadas.
Se estimó la aptitud combinatoria y la heterosis de siete poblaciones criollas de chile ‘Dulce’ (Capsicum annuum L.) y las cruzas resultantes entre ellas, mediante un diseño dialélico. Las 21 cruzas y sus progenitores se evaluaron en Akil y Acanceh, del Estado de Yucatán, México. La unidad experimental fue un surco de 8.0 m con 21 plantas distanciadas a 0.40 m, con distancia entre surcos de 1.20 m. Los experimentos se establecieron en un diseño bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones. Se midió: rendimiento de fruto, peso individual de frutos, número de frutos por planta, días a inicio de cosecha, altura de planta, longitud y diámetro de fruto. Las aptitudes combinatorias general (ACG) y específica (ACE) se estimaron con el método II modelo I de Griffing. Se encontró que los efectos aditivos estimados por la ACG fueron más grandes que los de dominancia estimados por la ACE, y que ambos efectos fueron influenciados por el ambiente de evaluación. Tres progenitores (P2, P3 y P4) mostraron los efectos positivos más altos de ACG en el rendimiento de fruto, y dos de éstos generaron híbridos con altos valores de ACE y heterosis. Por los valores de ACG de los padres y de heterosis de las progenies, se concluye que la hibridación sería el método de mejoramiento genético más adecuado para incrementar rendimiento de fruto y número de frutos por planta. En cambio, para mejorar altura de planta, peso individual de fruto, días a inicio de cosecha, longitud y diámetro de fruto, el método de mejoramiento por endocría y selección sería el indicado, para formar variedades.
